Towson, Md. - The Towson University women's tennis team (5-5) will play two matches this week – hosting Coppin State on Tuesday then heading to Philadelphia on Friday to take on Drexel in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) action.  
 
The Coppin match was scheduled for March 6 but was postponed due to weather. The Eagles are 0-4 this season with losses to George Washington, Lafayette, George Mason and UDC.
 
Drexel (5-4) is undefeated at home in 2026. The teams have played three common opponents this season – both defeating Delaware State and losing to William & Mary and James Madison.
 
STRONG STARTS
Ashira Murray and Gaia Montecchi are both off to strong starts in singles this season. Montecchi is 8-2 with victories on courts 1, 2 and 3. Murray is also 8-2 with four wins in both the No. 4 and No. 5 spots in the lineup.

AWARD WINNERS
Ashira Murray was named Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Player of the Week on February 24 after improving to 7-0 with a pair of three set victories. Competing at No. 4 singles, the junior battled past Georgetown's Ashley Kennedy, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) to help the Tigers earn a 4-2 team win. She followed by edging Navy's Jina Cha, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (11-9) – capturing the final five points of the match.

A week earlier, Chandrè Boshoff and Kiersten Tambe were named the CAA Women's Doubles Team after posting a 3-0 record at No. 1 doubles.

This is the first time that Towson has had multiple conference Players of the Week since 2016 when Lucy Wiliams and Barbora Vasilkova both earned Player of Week honors.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
With a victory over Georgetown on February 20, head coach Jamie Peterson moved into third place on the all-time wins list with 79 victories – passing Doug Neagle. Only Ken Volk (106 wins) and Peter Walten (86) have more coaching wins with the Towson University women's tennis program.

FALL '25 RECAP
During the fall semester, the Tigers played in four events and defeated Rider in a head-to-head match. In addition, sophomores Gaia Montecchi and  Kiersten Tambe and junior Chandrè Boshoff qualified for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championship in October.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Half of the roster was born outside of the United States. Chandrè Boshoff hails from George, South Africa, which is 8,100 miles from campus. Gaia Montecchi  is a native of Bango a Ripoli, Italy which is 4,300 miles from Towson. Ashira Murray and Tamzin Pountney were born and raised in England, 3,500 miles from campus. Chloe Courtnage is from Calgary, Canada, which is 2,300 miles away. 

DID YOU KNOW?
Towson head coach Jamie Peterson was two-time team captain on the Towson men's tennis team from 1991-95 and finished his career with a 64-35 record, the fourth-most wins and fourth-best winning percentage in program history. He led the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in 1993 and 1994.
