Terps Overcome Early Towson Lead in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Towson University baseball team faced Big Ten foe, Maryland, on Tuesday evening at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium.
 
Towson (15-18) scored six runs in the first three innings to lead Maryland (17-19) by two. After six, the Terrapins lead 7-6 before the Tigers tied the game in the top of the eighth. The Tigers surrendered eight runs in the home half, and failed to score in the ninth, as they fell 15-7.

  • Towson pitcher Matt Russell (0-1) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on two hits and three walks in 0.1 innings pitched.
  • Maryland pitcher Ryan Bailey (1-2) earned the win after tossing 2.0 shutout frames with one hit and one walk surrendered. Bailey struck out two.
 
How it Happened:
  • With two runners on in the top of the first inning, Keldrin Rodriguez hit a two-run double to right, putting the Tigers on top.
  • Aden Hill hit an RBI groundout with the bases loaded, driving in the run for the Terps in the bottom of the second.
  • The Tigers scored four runs on five hits in the third inning. Frank Adamski Jr. started with a two-run double to right center. Max D'Alessandro followed with an RBI double to center, scoring Adamski Jr. Keldrin Rodriguez hit an infield single later in the frame, allowing D'Alessandro to score on a throwing error.
  • David Mendez hit a three-run homer in the home half to pull the Terrapins within two runs.
  • The Terps tied the game in the fourth on a sacrifice fly and solo home run.
  • Another sacrifice fly in the sixth inning allowed Maryland to take a one-run lead, their first of the game.
  • The Tigers tied the game in the top of the eighth, scoring on an errant throw.
  • The Terps scored eight runs in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 15-7.
  • The Tigers failed to score in the ninth to fall by eight runs in College Park, Md.
 
On Deck:
During their Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) bye week, the Tigers will head to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer in a three-game series starting Friday night at 6 p.m.
