TOWSON, Md. – The No. 16/17 Towson University men's lacrosse team earned its third straight perfect Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) regular season with a decisive 20-3 victory over Hofstra, seeing
Mikey Weisshaar become the program's all-time leader in points scored.
Towson (10-3, 6-0 CAA) dominated in every facet of the game, doubling up on shots on Hofstra (4-10, 2-4 CAA) and outscoring the Pride by multiple goals in every quarter. Up 4-2 early in the second quarter, Towson bolted forward with the game's next 11 goals. This is Towson's most lopsided win over Hofstra in a series which has 58 all-time meetings.
Weisshaar finished with six goals and an assist for seven points to stand with 222 career points, surpassing Bob Griebe, who had 221 points from 1972-75. Weisshaar is also in striking distance of the all-time goals lead, having 149 in his career. Glenn Smith stands with 154 goals from 1988-91.
With the win, Towson earned the outright CAA regular season title. Towson, which had already clinched the 1-seed of the CAA Tournament, will play 4-seed Monmouth to kick off the semifinal round on Thursday, April 30 at 4 p.m. The victor takes on the winner of 2-seed Drexel vs. 3-seed Stony Brook on Saturday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m. for the CAA title.
The Tigers win their eighth straight game plus Towson has won 24 consecutive games against league opponents (including league tournament wins), the eighth-longest streak in Division I history.

How it Happened
- Towson got off to a fast start as Joaquin Villagomez shook off a defender on the opening possession and scored 77 seconds in. The Towson defense forced a couple of turnovers in the following minutes to keep the lead.
- Villagomez continued to get good looks on cage, scoring again off another dodge off a defender then just over a minute later off a catch and shoot from across the defense from Mikey Weisshaar to get an early hat trick less than 10 minutes into the game. Towson led 3-0.
- Hofstra scored its first goal with 2:57 left in the first from Drew Bogardus. Towson got the goal right back on a high bouncing shot from Ryan Schrier on the next possession. Towson led 4-1 after the first quarter.
- Towson fended off a one-minute man-down penalty to start the second quarter, but Hofstra scored a goal on its second possession of the period. Towson counterattacked with four goals in a span of just over two minutes: a Weisshaar catch and shoot from Villagomez, Trevor Phipps scoring on a clear out in the middle, Weisshaar scoring again with a shot through traffic from Schrier then Ronan Fitzpatrick scoring on a dodge from behind the cage.
- Kai Lopez's faceoff wins kept Towson's offense with plenty of possessions. Another pass across the defense, this time from Mat Burnam to Evan Boswell, resulted in a goal with 7:01 left in the quarter. Weisshaar added his fourth goal off a screen to push Towson into double digits on goals, followed by Villagomez scoring on a straight away heater on a man-up situation. Myles Quandt's faceoff win and shot off the post went to Villagomez for another goal. Towson wrapped up the quarter with another goal from Boswell on the left side as Towson led 13-2 at the break.
- The defenses dominated early with neither side scoring in the opening five minutes, helping by Joe'll Spagnuolo and James Azbill causing turnovers. Burnam broke the quarter stalemate on a catch and shoot from Alex Roussel behind cage, followed by Weisshaar hitting the corner on a man-up chance to complete Towson's 11-0 run and make the score 15-2 with 7:57 left in the third.
- Hofstra broke the Towson run with a Joey DeYoung goal with 7:25 to go in the third. Some back-and-forth concluded the quarter, with Fitzpatrick adding a highlight reel goal by dipping through two defenders to get free and scoring point blank, to make it 16-3 Tigers after three.
- Towson added two more quick goals to open the fourth as Roussel and Schrier added scores to give the home team a 18-3 lead minutes into the period. Towson's defense continued to lock down combined with Matt Nilan saves and a Matthew Wolfington caused turnover.
- Towards the end, Weisshaar etched his name in the Towson record book with quick fires off passes from Villagomez, surpassing the all-time mark with 1:11 left. Towson took the win 20-3.

- Mikey Weisshaar's 222 points come off 149 career goals and 73 career assists. In addition, Weisshaar has 42 goals so far this year, tied for eighth-most all-time in Towson single season history.
- Joaquin Villagomez earns Towson's first 10-point day since Thomas DeNapoli had 10 points vs. UMBC on March 19, 2013. The record for points in a single game for a Towson player is held by Spencer Ford, who had 13 points off five goals and eight assists in a win vs. Vermont on March 13, 1999.
