HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Towson University baseball team faced Hofstra in the final game of a three-game Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) series on Sunday afternoon at University Field.
Hofstra (17-24, 11-13 CAA) scored three runs in the bottom of the first to get out to an early lead over Towson (18-27, 6-18 CAA). The Pride added one run in the third and four in the fourth, extending their lead to 8-0. Following an earlier delay due to unplayable mound conditions, the game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning after another delay due to the same issue.
Key Stats:
- Towson starter Liam Diehl (1-6) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits in 3.0 innings pitched. Diehl struck out three and walked four batters.
- Hofstra starter (4-2) Nick Reese earned the win after tossing 5.0 three-hit, shutout frames. Reese struck out two and walked one batter faced.
How it Happened:
- The Pride jumped out to a lead with three runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the first inning.
- In the third inning, Hofstra's Nick Biddle singled through the left side of the infield with two runners on, scoring Melara from scoring position at second base.
- Nick Gallello and Michael Craig each picked up RBI knocks for the Pride in the bottom of the fourth. Gallello drove in one, while a second run scored on a fielding error. Craig drove in two runs on an RBI double to left, giving the Pride an 8-0 lead.
