TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team has finished practice one of 2026 fall camp, getting ready for the fast-approaching first game in one month.
 
The Tigers took the field for a full practice on the Lower Fields Complex on South Campus on Monday morning, bringing together all returners and new players together.
 
"It was great to have everybody out here," said Towson head coach Pete Shinnick, entering his fourth year at the helm. "We've had this pretty much this entire group together all summer long, and we are really excited about the work we put in."
 
Towson competed in individual drills and 7-on-7 competition on the first day, also doing strength room exercises later in the afternoon.
 
"In these early practices, you want to see attention to detail; one day one, they should be excited about what they are doing," said Shinnick. "We have got to be a disciplined football team.  We have to take care of the football, create turnovers and be disciplined.  We've lowered our penalty total the last two years, we need to continue to do that.  We have a saying, 'Win the field position battle', and one of the easiest ways to do that is limit penalties."
 
Practices will continue on most days in the following weeks in preparation for the first game on Thursday, Aug. 27 vs. Maine.  Towson will mainly practice on the Lower Fields Complex, later moving to Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

Towson won its final two games of the 2025 season to finish 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the CAA.  It is the sixth time in the last seven fall seasons where Towson has finished .500 or better in league play.
 
Towson opens the season with a Thursday night contest vs. Maine on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. for the annual Gold Rush game.  The first 2,000 fans will receive Gold Rush jerseys for this Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchup.
