TOWSON, Md. – Six Towson University players have been selected as captains for the 2026 season, set to kick off on Thursday, August 27.
Shamir Boyd,
KJ Brooks,
Andrew Indorf,
Ben Kumpon,
Matthieu Longa and
Joden Nelson are captains for the 2026 campaign. All are permanent captains for the first time with Towson.
This is the first season under head coach
Pete Shinnick where the team captains will serve all season long. In previous years, captains were chosen game-by-game until the mid-point of the season, when permanent captains were chosen.
Boyd enters his fourth season with Towson, playing in 16 games on the defensive line in the last two seasons. Last year, he finished with 20 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss in nine games.
Brooks has been a fixture on the offensive line the last three seasons, starting all three years. Last year he started all 12 games primarily at left guard, also playing at left and right tackle.
Indorf was Towson's starting quarterback last season, earning CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year. He threw for 2,344 yards and had 16 touchdowns to just four interceptions.
Kumpon played at linebacker in all 12 games last year as a true freshman, compiling 33 tackles. He had at least three tackles in five different games.
Longa has been a staple at linebacker and on special teams the past three years. He has played in all 35 games combined the last three years, including 12 tackles in 2025.
Nelson has played in a combined 29 games on the offensive line over the last three years, including taking over as the starting center in 2025.

Towson won its final two games of the 2025 season to finish 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the CAA. It is the sixth time in the last seven fall seasons where Towson has finished .500 or better in league play.
Towson opens the season with a Thursday night contest vs. Maine on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. for the annual Gold Rush game. The first 2,000 fans will receive Gold Rush jerseys for this Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchup.
