Field Hockey Drops Final Game of the Weekend to American

TOWSON, Md. - The Towson University field hockey team lost to American 6-1 at TU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday. The score sat 2-1 at halftime but the Eagles pulled away in the second half to improve to 3-3 on the season and drop the Tigers to 2-4.

  • 1st Quarter: A quiet first half of the period gave way to two Eagle goals in two minutes to give American an Early lead. The final three minutes of the quarter saw Delfina Larripa and Ella Jefferson both denied by the Eagle goalie. Towson also won a pair of penalty corners in the final 90 seconds but failed to get a goal back before entering the second quarter.
  • 2nd Quarter: Five minutes into the period, Olivia Thunnissen picked up the ball in the Tigers half and carried down the middle of the field and past multiple defenders before arriving in the Eagles circle and firing a shot into the near corner of the goal to cut the Tigers deficit in half. The 2-1 score would hold into halftime.
  • 3rd Quarter: American came out of the break hot scoring a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the period to make it 4-1. A Tiger corner a minute later saw Lydia Bennett's shot saved to keep Towson at one goal. The Eagles would score again in the final minute of the quarter to make it 5-1 entering the final 15 minutes.
  • 4th Quarter: The Eagles added a sixth goal midway through the fourth quarter, American saw out the game from there and defeated the Tigers 6-1.
