TOWSON, Md. – The next chapter of The Battle for Greater Baltimore is set for Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. as the Towson University football team hosts Morgan State at Unitas Stadium.

Towson, currently 0-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play, fell to a second FBS team, South Carolina, 45-9 on Sept. 12 to go to 0-3 overall.  Morgan State, from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, won at home 55-0 vs. Virginia-Lynchburg on Sept. 12 to stand at 2-1 this year.
 
Towson won a thriller in Baltimore on Sept. 4, 2025, with a John Dunmore 18-yard touchdown catch with 28 seconds left sending the Tigers to a 27-22 victory for its eighth straight win in the series.  Towson leads the all-time series 24-6, with the last win for Morgan State coming on Sept. 26, 2009.
 
This is a matchup of the two closest teams in FCS play with the two campuses being less than five miles apart.
 
FOURTH YEAR IN PETE SHINNICK ERA
Towson enters its fourth season under head coach Pete Shinnick in 2025.  Under coach Shinnick, Towson has earned three victories over then-top-15 teams and has finished at least .500 in CAA play in each of his first three years.
 
Towson has had five head coaches in program history: Carl Runk (1969-71), Phil Albert (1972-91), Gordy Combs (1992-2008), Rob Ambrose (2009-22) and Pete Shinnick (2023-pres.).
 
THREE TIGERS RECOGNIZED IN CAA PRESEASON AWARDS
Three players were recognized in the CAA Preseason Honors, led by KJ Brooks being CAA Preseason All-Conference while each Andrew Indorf and Daniel Anderla being CAA Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention.  All three are honored with preseason league awards for the first time.
 
Brooks, a former FCS Freshman All-American in 2023, has been Towson's primary player at right tackle for the past three seasons.  In 2025, the senior from Olney, Maryland started all 12 games for the Tigers, having starts at right tackle, left guard and left tackle.
 
Indorf, the 2025 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, was Towson's starting quarterback in all 12 games last year, throwing 59.6% for 2,344 yards, 16 touchdowns and just four interceptions, helping Towson have the fewest interceptions among CAA teams.
 
Anderla worked as Towson's long snapper in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2025.  Towson's kicker and punter each were all-conference honorees last season, including Caden Williams setting a Towson football single season record for best field goal percentage at 88.2%.
 
THE 2025 STARTING QUARTERBACK RETURNS
Andrew Indorf, the 2025 CAA Co-Offensive Rookie of the Year and Jerry Rice Award finalist, has returned to Towson as the presumptive starting quarterback for 2026.  Indorf is the first Towson quarterback to be the primary starter in back-to-back years since Tom Flacco was a two-year starter in 2018-19.
 
Indorf was the first Towson player to be a CAA Offensive Rookie of the Year since Shane Simpson in 2016 and the first to be a Jerry Rice Award finalist since Mason Woods in 2022.
 
AIR RAID OFFENSE
Towson's passing game has produced some big passing plays in the early going of the season.  So far, Andrew Indorf has four completions of at least 47 yards and three passing touchdowns of at least 30 yards.

TOWSON PICKED SIXTH IN CAA PRESEASON POLL
The Tigers were predicted to finish sixth in the league in the preseason coaches poll.  Towson received 93 points in the poll.  Defending CAA co-champion Rhode Island is predicted to finish first followed by Monmouth and Elon.

TIGERS IN THE PROS
Several Tigers have been competing in the professional ranks after their time with the Black & Gold.
 
Carter Runyon was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025, being elevated to the active roster on Sept. 28 and making his pro debut vs. the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 5.  He played 13 games for the Raiders last season.
 
In addition, three former Tigers currently serve as coordinators in the NFL.  Grant Udinski '19 returns as the Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator while Brian Fleury '02 is now the new offensive coordinator of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and Brian Duker '11 is the defensive coordinator of the New York Jets.
 
In the CFL, Tibo Debaillie '21 is playing his sixth year as a professional, including season five with the BC Lions.  The Belgium native has played 74 career games in the CFL.

NEARLY ALL NEW SPECIAL TEAMS
Towson has a very different special teams group from the 2025 season, needing to replace its primary kicker, punter and returners.  The lone returner to the group is long snapper Daniel Anderla, who was named Preseason All-CAA.
 
Two players have taken over kicking duties: redshirt freshman Zaydaan Faridi is 3-for-4 on field goals, including a long of 41 yards in a driving rain at South Carolina, while redshirt sophomore and Mercyhurst transfer Max Young is now taking kickoffs.
 
Towson, Maryland native and Loyola Blakefield graduate redshirt freshman Owen Scheihing is Towson's new punter.  He is currently tied for fourth in the CAA with 44.2 yards per punt, having two punts over 55 yards.
 
A couple of transfers have taken over return duties on special teams.  Hampden-Sydney transfer Mason Cummingham, the 2025 ODAC Offensive Player of the Year, returns punts while Monroe C.C. transfer Jashaun Amin, who is third all-time in receiving yards at Monroe, is the primary kickoff returner.

TOWSON TO APPEAR ON MONUMENTAL SPORTS NETWORK
Four Towson football home games will be appearing on Monumental Sports Network this season.  The home of the Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards, Monumental Sports Network is based out of Bethesda and is aired across the DMV, spanning from Pennsylvania, West Virginia and North Carolina.
 
In addition, all Towson home games and road games at CAA opponents will be aired on FloCollege, the exclusive streaming home of the CAA.  Spiro Morekas and Gordy Combs return as the Towson football broadcast team.
 
SCOUTING MORGAN STATE: 
Morgan State is off to a 2-1 start to the season for the first time since 2009.
 
The Bears are averaging 213.3 passing yards a game, top in the MEAC, with senior quarterback Cameron Edge with 503 passing yards, five touchdowns and an interception.  Redshirt senior Jordan Barnett leads the rushing attack with 173 yards and three scores.  Helping a defense that allows 25.7 points per game, sophomore Donovan Moyer is the MEAC's sacks leader with four so far, tying for the team lead with 11 tackles.

An 18-yard touchdown catch by John Dunmore with 24 seconds left brought The Battle for Greater Baltimore trophy back to Towson with a 27-22 win vs. Morgan State.

BATTLE FOR GREATER BALTIMORE - SEPT. 19, 2026
The next chapter of The Battle for Greater Baltimore will be written on Sept. 19 as Towson and Morgan State, the two closest teams in FCS football be seperated by 4.6 miles, will meet at Unitas Stadium.
 
Last season, a John Dunmore 18-yard touchdown catch with 24 seconds left gave Towson a 27-22 victory over Morgan State in Baltimore.  The Tigers are 24-6 all-time vs. the Bears, having won eight straight games dating back to 2011.  Morgan State's last win in the series came in 2009.
 
IMPORTANT DATES: TOWSON VS. MORGAN STATE
--Sept. 29, 2001 (Baltimore, Md. - Towson 20-17 (OT)):
Morgan State took the lead with a touchdown with 5:16 left,then a seven-play, 93-yard drive ended on a Noah Read TD to push Towson ahead 17-14. Morgan State forced overtime with a last second field goal. Ed Kulic hit an 18- yard field goal to give Towson the lead; a Morgan State fumble ended its OT chance as Towson took a 20-17 overtime victory.
 
--Sept. 1, 2005 (Towson, Md. - Towson 29-26):
Down 26-13 late in the third quarter, Towson rallied with 16 unanswered points, with Ron Halbruner's 29-yard field goal with one second left to give Towson the 29-26 victory. In his first-ever collegiate game, Sean Schaefer (Hall of Fame Class of 2021) threw for 344 yards while Nick Williams rushed for 141 yards.
 
--Sept. 2, 2017 (Towson, Md. - Towson 10-0):
The revival of the Battle for Greater Baltimore series at Towson saw a defensive battle at Unitas, with the Tigers taking a 10-0 victory. All points came in the second quarter. The Towson defense forced four turnovers and held Morgan State from scoring on three red zone appearances.
 
CHALLENGING FBS COMPETITION
The Tigers will be playing two games against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams this year, playing at Navy from the American Athletic Conference on Sept. 5 and at South Carolina from the Southeastern Conference on Sept. 12.
 
Having played at least one FBS opponent every fall season played (except COVID 2020) since 2008, this is just the second year where Towson is playing two FBS teams.  Towson took on Kent State and LSU in 2012.
