Biography

Formerly the Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations at Florida Gulf Coast University, Colleen Sorem was named as the Senior Associate Athletics Director For Business and Finance at Towson University in June, 2012.

In her position at Towson, she leads the Athletics Business Office and oversees the Facilities and Operations as well as the Equipment Room. She also has oversight of a sport to be determined.

“I am excited to have Colleen joining our Athletics Leadership Team in this critical role as our new Associate Director of Athletics for Business & Finance,” said Mike Waddell, the Director of Athletics at Towson.  “Her work at FGCU, UMass Lowell and the University of Alabama has prepped her well for the challenge of directing our business, facilities and equipment mission here at Towson.  I look forward to her arriving at TU later this month and to working with her and members of her B&F team to advance our championship mission for Tiger Athletics.”

A 2000 graduate of James Madison University who earned her B.S. degree in kinesiology with a minor in business, Sorem has been a member of the athletics staff at Florida Gulf Coast for the last four years.

For the first three years, she was the Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations. She was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations last year.

During her tenure at Florida Gulf Coast, she directed supervision of FGCU’s business office operations while managing and coordinating travel for a 15-sport program that competes in the Atlantic-Sun Conference. She also managed and coordinated all athletics scholarships, working with the Director of Financial Aid and the Director of Compliance.

She was also the sport supervisor for the Eagles’ men’s soccer team and the softball team. Over the past two seasons, the men’s soccer team has compiled an impressive 25-9-4 record and won the 2011 Atlantic Sun championship. The Eagles’ softball squad enjoyed the finest season in school history this spring. FGCU won the Atlantic Sun title and stunned No. 5 Florida in the first round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional, 2-1. The Eagles finished the season with a 38-24 record.

A native of Manassas, Va., Sorem joined the FGCU staff in 2008 after six years at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, an NCAA Division II program with Division I ice hockey. She joined the UML staff as the Coordinator of Intramurals and Facility Staff. In that role, she recruited, hired and trained all facility staff. She also produced all user policies, procedures and manuals for a new 65,000-square foot recreation facility. She also supervised 25 intramural programs.

From 2004-to-2007, she was the Events and Business Operations manager for the River Hawks. She was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Division I and Division II programs for her final year at UML.  She was the administrative supervisor for the UML baseball, softball, men’s golf, and men’s soccer programs. During her years at UML, she also assisted in planning and hosting the NCAA Field Hockey national championship.

After graduating from James Madison, Sorem earned her Master of Arts degree in Education, Sports Administration from the University of Alabama in 2002. During her time at Alabama, she was a graduate assistant for intramural sports and special events. At Alabama, she administered over 50 activities for men’s, women’s and co-recreational intramural sports programs. She also recruited, hired, trained, assigned and evaluated student supervisors, office personnel and over 150 officials.
