Biography

2019: Towson's primary starting catcher, playing in 38 games with 34 starts... led the team in sacrifice hits (5) and was tied for fourth with three home runs... finished at .189 with two doubles and 13 RBI... had a five-game hitting streak from April 12-20, started by a 2-for-4 day with two runs and an RBI in a win at Hofstra (Apr. 12) and capped by going 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and three RBI in a victory over Delaware (Apr. 20).

2018:  Appeared in 37 games, making 36 starts at catcher…hit .196 with six doubles, seven RBIs and nine runs scored…threw out 21 potential base stealers…collected two hits and drove in a run in the season opener at New Mexico State…went 4-for-6 with a pair of RBIs in a doubleheader against Delaware…doubled and drove in a run in a two-hit performance in the series opener at William & Mary…hit safely in seven of the last 10 games of the season, including a stretch of six-straight games ... had four multi-hit games.

2017:  Appeared in 45 games, making 39 starts…hit .209 with seven doubles, three home runs and 20 RBIs…hit first home run of the season against Cal State Northridge…hit go-ahead three-run home run in extra innings to give the Tigers the victory over UMBC…put together three-straight multi-hit games early in April…collected two hits and scored a pair of runs in the middle game against William & Mary…homered in series finale at Charleston.

2016:  Appeared in 37 games, making 29 starts behind the plate…hit .167 with a double, triple, home run and eight RBIs…collected a hit in his collegiate debut at New Mexico State…drove in his first run in a 2-for-3 effort in the series finale at Norfolk State…collected two hits, including a double, against Virginia…went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored against Hofstra…tripled and drove in three runs in a victory over Delaware State.

HIGH SCHOOL:  Played for head coach Jeff Rabberman at Gaithersburg High School…earned Gazette Player of the Year honors in helping the Trojans to the 4A state championship as a senior…named to the Washington Post All-Met second team…hit .363 with 22 doubles, seven home runs and 70 RBIs in his career…added 53 walks…tied the Maryland High School record with two home runs in one inning…school record holder for games played (86), hits (82) and walks…garnered MSACB All-West honors after hitting .393 with six doubles and 24 RBIs as a junior…helped team capture two 4A West Region championships and three division titles…selected to play in the Brooks Robinson All-Star Game, as well as the  Battle of the Counties game.

PERSONAL:  Son of Tony Jr. and Rachel Martinez…has one sister…favorite professional team is the Washington Nationals…favorite athlete is Yadier Molina…most memorable experience was winning the Maryland 4A state championship as a senior…majoring in sports management.
