One of the top goalkeepers to ever play for the Tigers, Billy Chiles begins his fourth season as an assistant coach at his alma mater.
A second team NSCAA/adidas® All-America selection as a senior, Chiles is the Tigers’ all-time leader with a 1.002 goals against average. Named as a first team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick as a senior, Chiles started 33 of 34 games in two seasons with the Tigers.
During his senior year, the Silver Spring, Md. native led the CAA with 110 saves in 21 matches while his nine shutouts ranked second in the CAA. He also had an .833 save percentage and earned CAA Co-Player of the Week honors after posting back-to-back shutouts against William & Mary and Old Dominion.
As a junior, Chiles ranked second in NCAA Division I with a 0.33 goals against average and a .935 save percentage, helping the No. 15 Tigers reach the third round of the NCAA Tournament. He allowed just four goals and posted six shutouts, which ranked third in the CAA. Chiles was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team after posting a shutout in the Tigers’ 0-0 draw against Old Dominion in the CAA Championship Match.
Chiles, who also competed as a member of the United States U-23 National Team Pool during his senior year, played for Crystal Palace USA in 2009. He appeared in two matches and posted a 0.74 goals against average.
