Winners of the program's only NCAA championship, the 1974 men's lacrosse team was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1998.
Under the direction of legendary Head Coach
Carl Runk, the Tigers romped through their schedule, going 14-1 en route to the College Division title. Towson won its first six games - all by at least five goals - before running into No. 3 Washington & Lee on April 27 and falling, 19-17. It proved to be the Tigers' only stumble of the season as they rebounded with wins over No.7 Hofstra (15-11) and No. 4 Virginia (18-14).
Towson saved its heaviest offensive production for the end of the season, winning their regular-season finale against Loyola by the score of 26-6. The Tigers roared through the playoffs, defeating the University of Baltimore 22-1 in the quarterfinals and Adelphi 22-9 in the semifinals. Towson and Hobart faced off for the national title on May 25 and needed overtime to earn the 18-17 win and the title.
