Towson University Athletics announced the launch of a $12 million revenue generation campaign to fuel high-impact improvements for two key athletic facilities. With $2 million raised to date, the Campaign for Excellence seeks to ensure Towson Athletics attracts and retains high quality student-athletes, provides first-class sport performance and medical care, and enhances the impressive catalog of athletic and academic facilities that already benefit TU’s student-athletes.
The scope of work supported by the campaign is expected to be tackled in two phases, the first of which could begin as early as the summer of 2025.
Phase One: Field House Expansion and Renovation + Towson Center Training Room and Weight Room Renovation
A closer look at Phase One’s improvements to the Field House shows that the project calls for renovations to over 17,000 sq. ft. of the existing 53,000 sq. ft. of Unitas Stadium’s Field House, including a 12,600 sq. ft. addition to the building. This new addition will expand team meeting spaces, establish program-specific suites with meeting rooms, and provide important enhancements to the academic center. The renovation will focus on the athletics training room, which could be supported by as much as 2,000 sq. ft. in additional space dedicated to medical support.
Also of note, the project plans to bring a new “Fueling Zone” to the Field House. This area, located near study spaces, computer labs and team meeting rooms, will bring a fueling opportunity to the field house to better meet the dietary needs of student-athletes before, during and after training sessions and competitions.
Phase One also includes $6 million of work to the Towson Center, including a 4,000 sq. ft. expansion and renovation of the training and the establishment of a new sport performance center, which will focus on connecting and improving the weight rooms and other sport performance areas within the facility.
Field House construction is estimated to take 18 months and could begin as early as summer 2025 with work in the Towson Center to follow closely behind.

Phase Two: Towson Center Court Level and Gym Level
Phase Two includes a complete renovation of the Towson Center gymnasium, the practice facility for several Tiger athletic teams. The $12 million project would add 15,000 square feet of indoor turf space, two practice courts for volleyball and basketball and contemplates additional improvements to the viewing area that overlooks the Towson Center gymnasium today.
Towson Center is the main hub for Towson Athletics, including the department’s weight rooms, an athletic training room, recovery room and most teams’ coaches' offices and locker room facilities. Additionally, the Towson Center is scheduled to open a new weight room in January 2025 and a 3,600 sq. ft. dining facility for the fall 2025 semester.
These projects, combined with the completion of Phases One and Two, will completely overhaul the look and feel of Towson Athletics.
