Paul Benoit enters his second season with Towson baseball. Benoit works primarily with the infielders and baserunners and assists with hitters at Towson, plus serves as the team's first base coach, camp director and director of analytics.
In 2022, Benoit worked with Jack McLaughlin, who became the first Towson infielder to earn all-league honors, second team, since 2018. McLaughlin led the team with a .309 batting average plus was top-ten in the CAA in slugging % and on-base %.
Benoit comes to Towson after spending the previous season at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas, where he was the infield coordinator and director of analytics while also working with the hitters and assisting with recruiting efforts. Benoit was in charge of video coordination and tutoring alongside his on-field responsibilities. While at Ottawa, Benoit had four infielders named to the 2021 all-conference teams, a KCAC gold-glover, and an NAIA All-American. The combined infield fielding percentage increased 15 points (.952 to .967) from the previous season under Benoit and the team set school records for wins, double plays turned, hits, home runs, and individual records for single-season home runs and RBI’s.
Benoit spent the summer of 2021 as the head coach of the Carolina Wolves in the Southern Shores Collegiate League in Greensboro, North Carolina. Benoit was in charge of all aspects of the organization, from recruiting a full roster, hiring assistants, and managing a budget to travel, housing, and practices. Under Benoit, the team won the regular season with a win percentage of .765, and set team and league records for runs scored, ERA, regular season wins, batting average, and stolen bases.
Before coming to Ottawa, Benoit was an assistant coach at Post University in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was responsible for infielders and technology while assisting efforts with hitting and recruiting. Benoit was in charge of tutoring alongside the Synergy video system and helped coordinate efforts in Blast, Rapsodo, and WIN Reality virtual reality. While at Post, Benoit helped develop an offense that ranked nationally in Division II in the top-25 for Home Runs per Game, top-50 for Slugging Percentage, and produced a NCAA Division II National Player of the Week along with several CACC Conference Players of the Week. In a shortened 2020 season, Post had five players named to the Academic All-Conference team and two players named to the Division II Academic All-District team.
Prior to his time at Post University, Benoit was a baseball coach at St. Pius X Catholic High School and was involved as both an assistant and head coach with various club/travel teams in the Atlanta area. He helped the Druid Hills Red Devils to a runner-up finish at the 2019 Dizzy Dean National Championship.
Benoit spent his first year in college playing baseball under Claudio Reilsono at Carnegie Mellon University and ultimately graduated in 2019 from Kennesaw State University with a bachelor of science in mechatronics engineering.
