Harry Richards joined Pete Shinnick's football staff as the team's running backs coach starting in the 2023 season.

In 2024, two Towson running backs were in the top-4 in the CAA in rush yards per carry, including the league leader Devin Matthews with 6.8 yards per carry.  Matthews would finish his career ranked sixth all-time in Towson history with 28 career rushing touchdowns.  Tyrell Greene Jr. averaged six yards a carry, adding nine rushing touchdowns.

Richards's running back corps spearheaded a rushing offense which averaged 153.5 yards per game.  Primary runner Devin Matthews had 10 rushing touchdowns, moving into tied for seventh in Towson program history with 23 career rushing touchdowns.  During the Sept. 30 victory at New Hampshire, Towson had two 100+ yard rushers in a game since Oct. 19, 2019: D'Ago Hunter and Devin Matthews each rushed for 116 yards.

Richards comes to Towson after spending five years at Stetson University as the running backs coach.  He coached the team's all-time leading rusher and was the interim offensive coordinator in the final four games of 2021, where the Hatters averaged averaged 30 points a game.  Richards was the kickoff return coach in 2022.  With Richards on the staff, Stetson had its first winning seasons in school history in 2018 and 2019.  He worked with Brian Sheppard, the current Towson offensive coordinator, at Stetson in 2022.

Previous to Stetson, Richards was an offensive QC and assistant wide receivers coach at Texas State (March-April 2018), an offensive assistant and assistant quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State (2017) and an offensive assistant and assistant running backs coach at Rutgers (2016).

Richards has experience in the CAA as a undergraduate offensive intern at James Madison University from 2015-16.  He served as an assistant running backs and quarterbacks coach as well as a recruiting assistant.

Richards graduated from JMU in 2017 with a degree in sports and recreation management, minoring in general business.
