Jon Schwartz

Jon Schwartz begins his fifth season at Towson, and his fourth working with the outside linebackers.

Schwartz initially joined the Tigers staff for the 2012 season as a defensive quality control coach.

The 2015 Tiger defense continued to improve throughout the season as it made the switch to a 3-4 scheme.  Over their eight conference games, the defense held their opponents scoreless in 15 of the 32 quarters.

The defense was sparked by outside linebacker Jordan Mynatt who ranked eighth in the CAA with 11.5 tackles-for-loss.  He finished second on the team with 60 tackles and has had four pass break-ups.

Opposite of Mynatt was Eddie Releford.  Releford enjoyed his best season as a Tiger as he was fifth on the team with 50 tackles.  He added six tackles-for-loss and three sacks.

Mynatt made nine starts at linebacker after beginning the season as the starting free safety.  He would go on to finish the season with 61 tackles.

In his first season working with the linebackers, Schwartz and the Tigers won a school-record 13 games on their way to a spot in the FCS National Championship game.  The defense held seven of their opponents under 20 points, including holding three opponents under 10 points.

Schwartz came to Towson after spending the 2011 season as the linebackers and special teams coach at Annapolis High School.

He graduated from Shepherd University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure.

Schwartz was a two-year starter at inside linebacker, helping the Rams to back-to-back West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships.  In his first season as a starter, Schwartz ranked fourth on the team with 42 tackles.

In 2010, Schwartz helped the Rams to a 12-2 record and a trip to the NCAA Division II semifinals.

Schwartz was a standout linebacker at Annapolis High School where he earned All-Arundel County honors as a junior and senior.  He led the county in tackles his final two seasons and finished his career with 305 tackles.
