Statham has returned to Towson to serve as the edges coach beginning in the 2026 season. He was previously a QC for the Tigers in 2023.
Statham comes back to South Campus after spending last year as the assistant defensive line coach at Florida Atlantic, working with interior defensive lineman and defensive ends. CJ Doggette Jr. was American All-Conference Third Team after leading the team with seven sacks in 2025.
Before FAU, he was the defensive line coach, run game coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Fairmont State in 2024, helping the Falcons win seven games that season, and was the defensive line coach, video coordinator and social media content creator for Stevenson.
Before his first stint with Towson, Statham was at High Point High School, where he was head coach of the varsity football program for the 2022-23 season. He oversaw the student-athletes and their grades, paperwork, physicals, strength & conditioning, football IQ, recruitment and game day performance. While in this position, he was a 2023 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) committee member and PG vs. SMAC all-star team linebacker’s coach. Some accolades his players received were Washington Post player of the week, all-star team accreditation (two players), blue-grey All-American, first team all-county (one player), second team all-county (one player). Statham acted as defensive coordinator for the varsity football program from 2021-22.
Statham was the head coach for the High Point High School cross country program from 2021-22, where he was responsible for student-athletes’ grades, paperwork, physicals, strength & conditioning, recruitment, and game day performance. While in this position, his team was able to achieve one Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) state 100m finalist.
Statham has been a part-time as head football coach for K-8th grade students with Flag Star Football since 2020. He also was an assistant to the equipment director at Howard University in 2021.
From 2011-15, Kal-El Statham attended Pinellas Park High School and was a part of the varsity football team. During this time, Statham received multiple first team all-county elections for offense and defense, two first team all-state and all-regional elections, was voted team captain three years and led the state in total tackles in 2013. After graduating from Pinellas Park High School in 2015, Statham went on to become a true freshman starting fullback for Florida Atlantic. He was a starting linebacker for the Feather River College football team from 2016-17, receiving accolades such as North Cali honorable mention and voted team captain. After graduating from Feather River College, Statham transferred to the University of Charleston where he played starting linebacker. At University of Charleston, he received a first team all-conference election, was a regional all-star, was voted team captain, led the team in tackles and was second on the team in tackles for loss and sacks.
Statham attended FAU from 2015-16, then transferred to Feather River College where he would graduate with an associate degree in social behavioral science in 2017. Statham graduated from the University of Charleston in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design. From 2022-23, Statham received his Master of Arts Communication from Liberty University.
