Konstantinos Kosmakos

Konstantinos Kosmakos enters his 13th season as an assistant coach at his alma mater.  He is entering his eighth season coaching the defensive line.  Kosmakos is also one of Towson's primary recruiters in Europe.

2019 saw Bryce Carter become the team's only junior team captain, tying for the team lead with 4.5 sacks, adding 12 tackles for loss and 54 total tackles.  In all, six Towson defensive lineman had a hand in at least one sack, including Jesus Gibbs and Vinnie Shaffer having two each.  This unit helped Towson be third in the CAA in scoring defense with 23.5 points allowed per game.

In the 2018 season, four defensive linemen recorded at least 2.5 sacks, helping the team hold three opponents to 13 points or fewer.  Bryce Carter recorded 6.5 sacks, the second-most for a Tiger in a season since 2014 (Kanyia Anderson with nine in 2017).

Kosmakos joined the Tiger coaching staff in 2008 as an offensive line assistant.  He was the assistant defensive line coach in 2012, after coaching the outside linebackers in 2011.

The defensive line continued to be a strength for the Tigers in 2016.  Led by preseason All-CAA tackle Jon Desir, the defensive line recorded 13.5 sacks and 30 tackles-for-loss.

Sophomore Clifton Jones and redshirt freshman Zain Harps Upshur had breakout seasons as they combined for 12.0 tackles-for-loss and 5.5 sacks.  Nose tackle Max Tejada added three sacks, including forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown in a come-from-behind victory over Stony Brook.

The 2014 unit was led by All-America defensive end Ryan Delaire.  The First-Team All-CAA pick ranked second in the CAA with 11.0 sacks.

Delaire was not the only defensive lineman to have a big year as Drew Cheripko added 7.5 sacks.

Delaire would sign as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before going to the Super Bowl with the Carolina Panthers.

The defensive line played a key role in the Tigers run to the National Championship game in 2013.  As a defense, the Tigers registered 41 sacks, seventh in all of FCS that year.

The anchor of the front was Delaire and his CAA-leading 11.5 sacks.  His efforts allowed him to become the fourth Tiger defensive lineman to earn All-America recognition.

As the outside linebackers coach in 2011, Kosmakos helped the Tigers become the most improved team in NCAA Division I as Towson finished 9-3 and captured its first CAA championship.

During his time assisting the defensive line during the 2009-10 seasons, Kosmakos was a captain for the American Indoor Football Association’s Baltimore Mariners.  He helped the Mariners to a 16-0 record and the 2010 AIFA Championship.

Before joining the coaching staff, Kosmakos was a standout offensive lineman for the Tigers.

Kosmakos was a fixture along the offensive line from 2002-05, and was one of the most versatile offensive lineman to ever play at Towson.

After making 13 starts at guards and center in his first two seasons, Kosmakos took over as the starting center his junior season.  He would go on to start 22 of the 23 games over his final two seasons.  He served as a team captain his senior season.

His efforts over his final two season earned him back-to-back Offensive Player of the Year awards.  He became just the fourth offensive lineman to win the award, joining Jason Gunning (2003), David Snyder (1995) and Kevin Fidati (1979).  He was also the sixth player to win the award in consecutive seasons.

Prior to his standout career at Towson, Kosmakos helped Dulaney High School compile a 7-3 record his junior season after a winless campaign the season before.  Kosmakos was a standout wrestler for the Lions, posting a 73-4 career varsity record.  He was inducted into the Dulaney Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.

Kosmakos graduated from Towson University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
