Banks comes to Towson after five seasons as the head coach of Gettysburg College, being hired in Feb. 2020 and competing in his first season in 2021.  12 players earned all-league honors from 2021-25, including the program's first First Team running back since 2007 during the 2024 season.

Previous to Gettysburg, Banks was a linebackers coach and assisted special teams at the University of Pennsylvania in 2019 and was a defensive backs coach and special teams assistant at his alma mater of Georgetown University from 2014-18.  He helped coach a combined nine all-league players during that time, helping the Hoya secondary make 20 interceptions during the 2018 season.

A local from Brandywine, Maryland, the Georgetown graduate was a team captain and two-time All-Patriot League defensive back with the Hoyas.  He played professionally from the Boise Burn in the Arena Football League, the Marburg Mercenaries in Germany and the Bergamo Lions in Italy.

Banks graduated from Georgetown in 2006 with a degree in sociology.
