Tyson Wachenheim

Tyson Wachenheim joined the Towson football team as the tight ends coach beginning in the 2023 season.

In 2023, Carter Runyon became the first-ever Towson Division I tight end to earn All-America recognition, being Second Team by each the Associated Press and STATS Perform.  Runyon led Towson in all major receiving categories with 43 receptions, 549 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Wachenheim comes to Towson after being the tight ends coach at Belhaven in 2022.  Wachenheim's tight end group helped block for a Belhaven team which averaged 287 rushing yards a game, ranking fourth in NCAA DIII.  The unit also finished with two of the top-five players in receptions with the pair combining for 21 catches for 301 yards and four touchdowns.

Previously, he was an offensive graduate assistant at Indiana from 2020-21, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers, and a defensive graduate assistant at Georgia Tech from 2017-19, working with linebackers, the defensive line and safeties.

From 2015-16, he was the tight ends coach at Virginia Military Institute (VMI).  Ryan Swingle earned First Team All-SoCon recognition in 2016, leading all league tight ends with 32 receptions.

Wachenheim graduated in American studies from Christopher Newport University in 2015, where he played tight end from four years.  He earned his Master's Degree in building construction and facilities management in 2019 from Georgia Tech.  His father, Scott Wachenheim, was the head coach of VMI from 2015-22.
