In September, 2000, Eric Rhew joined the Tigers’ Office of Athletic Media Relations as an undergraduate assistant. After his graduation in May, 2005, Rhew started his professional career, but it was only a matter of time before he returned to his alma mater.
The Towson, Md. native currently serves as the media relations contact for the Tigers’ men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams. During his current stint at Towson, he has also overseen the media relations efforts for several other sports.
Rhew began his media relations career as an undergraduate assistant, helping the Tigers’ media relations staff with game-day responsibilities and publications. In 2002, he was honored as the University’s Student Employee of the Year and was a finalist for the award in 2003.
After graduating, Rhew moved to Boston, Mass. to serve as the Director of Media Services for Major League Lacrosse. He served in that capacity during the 2005 MLL season and returned to that role in a part-time capacity during the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
In August, 2005, Rhew moved back to the Baltimore area to work at Loyola College, serving as the Media Coordinator in the Office of Athletic Communications. In addition to serving as the SID for several of the Greyhounds’ athletic teams, he was the radio play-by-play voice for the Loyola women’s basketball and women’s lacrosse teams.
However, Rhew returned home to Towson nearly a year later and joined the Tigers’ Athletic Media Relations staff on a full-time basis and has been there ever since.
Rhew has been recognized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) three times since returning to Towson. Most recently, his 2009 and 2010 Tiger men’s lacrosse media guides were ranked “2nd in the Nation” while the Tigers’ 2009 and 2010 women’s lacrosse media guides followed as “3rd in the Nation.” In addition, the Tigers’ 2007 volleyball media guide was ranked 2nd in the District by CoSIDA.
Rhew was also honored as the recipient of the Division I Women’s Lacrosse Media Services Award by Inside Lacrosse Magazine in 2007.
He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and is a member of the CoSIDA Academic All-America committee.
