Greg Penczek
has joined the Towson University Sports Performance Staff as an
Associate Athletics Trainer, it was announced by Associate Director of
Athletics for Sports Performance, James Shipp. Penczek will have primary responsibilities with the field hockey and men’s lacrosse teams at Towson.
“With the addition
of Greg, we now have four staff members who have served as a collegiate
Head Athletic Trainers,” Shipp said. “His hiring is a major benchmark
toward achieving our Athletic Director’s vision of becoming the national
leader in student-athlete medical care. I am excited about that and in
adding Greg’s experience in lacrosse medicine and clinical skills to
our already strong staff.”
Penczek joins the
Tigers staff after spending the last six years as the head athletic
trainer at Stevenson University. For the Mustangs, Penczek was
responsible for the prevention and care of 600 student-athletes in 21
different sports. He helped get two additional staff members and worked
with the development of the football program. Penczek managed all
administrative aspects of the athletic training program while overseeing
the strength and conditioning coordinator.
Prior to his work at
Stevenson, Penczek served as the assistant athletic trainer at
Gardner-Webb for two years. At Gardner-Webb he served as the primary
coverage person for the men’s soccer and wrestling teams. Penczek
supervised the athletic training students while training the staff in
CPR, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen training. He taught in the
Athletic Training Education program and assisted with drug testing
protocol.
Penczek received his
Masters degree in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University in 2004.
While working towards his degree, he served as a graduate assistant
athletic trainer and worked with the women’s gymnastics team at LSU. In
addition, he supervised the athletic training students, helped with
football as needed and worked on the in-house drug collection.
Penczek has received
a pair of Bachelors degrees from Salisbury University. The first was in
physical education in 1996 and the second in athletic training in 2001.
Penczek worked in the athletic training room at Salisbury first as a
student and also as a part-time assistant athletic trainer just after
graduation.
Penczek is an
NATABOC Certified athletic trainer, who has had the chance to present at
several conferences. He currently serves as the President of the
Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association.
