Laura Klimchock has joined the Towson University Athletic Academic Services staff, it has been announced by Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Achievement Bobbi Madison.
Klimchock will serve as a Learning Specialist for the Men's and Women's Basketball teams at Towson.
"We are very excited to have Laura join the staff," said Madison. "The position of learning specialist is a major step up for Towson Basketball and the athletic academic support staff.
"She is an excellent addition and comes to Towson with unique ideas from the Akron staff," added Madison.
Klimchock comes to Towson after spending the last two- plus years as a graduate assistant in the Student Athlete Academic Services department at the University of Akron. At Akron, she developed academic support services for members of the basketball team. Klimchock monitored academic progress by the at-risk athletes and helped the athletes stay in compliance with the NCAA rules. She also developed tutoring support.
Prior to her arrival in Akron, Klimchock worked as a Health and Nutrition Assistant at Seton Hill Child Services Inc. She visited childcare centers and conducted hearing, vision and behavioral health tests. Klimchock also co-taught CPR classes while holding this position. While working in the health and nutrition position, Klimchock served as the Head Girls Basketball coach at Harold Middle School and the assistant coach at Derry Area High School.
Klimchock earned her Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations and Advertising from St. Vincent College in 2008. A four-year standout for the St. Vincent's women's basketball team, she finished her career as the ninth-leading scorer in school history with 1,322 points. In her junior year, she led the Bearcats in scoring with a 22.5 average and was the fourth-leading scorer in NCAA Division III. As a junior, she led the Bearcats to the ECAC Division III South championship.
Klimchock earned her Master's degree from Akron in Sports Administration in 2011.
