Michael Leonard-Garner, who spent the last two years as the head athletic trainer at St. Paul's College, has been named Senior Assistant Athletic Trainer at Towson University, Assistant Director of Athletics for Sport Performance, James Shipp announced.
In his role with the Tigers, Leonard-Garner works with the football, women's basketball and women's lacrosse teams at Towson.
"I am thrilled that Mike Leonard-Garner has accepted our invitation to join our program," said Shipp. "He brings a great knowledge base in athletic training and sports performance as well as an incredible work ethic that will help Tiger student-athletes reach their potential."
Leonard-Garner joins the Tigers from St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Va. where he had served as the Head Athletics Trainer since 2009. While at St. Paul's, he was responsible for providing athletic training care and rehabilitation for 13 Division II programs. He was also responsible for all the administrative components for the sports medicine division.
Leonard-Garner received his Masters of Science in Athletic Training in 2009 and his BS in Exercise and Sports Science in 2007 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While at UNCG, Leonard-Garner served as an athletic training student with the UNCG men's basketball team, the Wake Forest football team, Greensboro Orthopedics and Northwest Guilford H.S. He also served as a research assistant, examining the risk factors for ACL injuries in the Applied Neuromechanics Research Laboratory during his undergraduate and graduate studies at UNCG.
