Biography

Pete Schlehr, a 1971 Towson graduate, returned to his alma mater as the director of athletic media relations in December, 1975. He has been overseeing the sports information operation ever since. His tenure is the longest of any member of Towson's athletics department.

 

Unitl 2007 he was the primary contact for football, men's basketball and men's lacrosse. He is currently the contact for men's basketball, cross country, track & field and golf.

 

Upon graduating from Towson, Schlehr served as the Sports Editor of the Harford County based Aegis Newspaper. From 1972 to 1975 he was a member of the Baltimore News American's sports staff.

 

Over the years he has been recognized many times by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his publications. He was the first collegiate media relations official to be honored by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association with its Doyle Smith Media Award.

 

In addition to his Towson duties Schlehr has overseen the media relations operations for such events as the World Lacrosse Games and two NCAA Men's National Lacrosse Championships at M&T Bank Stadium. For a number of years he served as the publicity director for the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame's Greater Baltimore Chapter.
