Biography

A four-year starter for the Tigers, Bob Washington '78 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2000.

He was instrumental in Towson’s rise to the top of the NCAA Division II rankings. During his four seasons, he helped Towson compile an 86-28 record, earning All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors each year. He was named honorable mention All-Mason-Dixon twice and second team all-league twice.

He finished his career with 1,437 points and is among the leading scorers in Towson history. His 970 rebounds and 126 blocked shots also rank him among the Tiger greats.

In his freshman year, he averaged 14.8 points per game with a 7.7 rebounding average as he helped the Tigers to a 14-11 record. In his sophomore year, Bob averaged 15.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game as the Tigers posted a 19-10 record and finished as Mason-Dixon runner-up. He was named to the all-tournament team at the Baltimore Metro Tournament as the Tigers finished second.

In his junior season, he was a key to the winningest season in Towson history. The Tigers had a 27-3 record, won the NCAA Division II South Atlantic regional title and reached the national quarterfinals. Towson also spent the final four weeks ranked as the number one team in Division II and was ranked number one at the end of the regular season. Bob enjoyed another solid season, averaging 10.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. He also had a .515 field goal percentage.

As a senior, he averaged 10.7 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. One of the Tiger captains, he led Towson to its first Mason-Dixon Conference championship and a second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic regionals. Towson closed out another remarkable season with a 26-4 record after losing to Elizabeth City in the regional finals. The Tigers also finished the season as the third-ranked team in the NCAA Division II. He graduated from Towson in 1978 with a degree in business administration and marketing.

After graduating from Towson, he worked as a sales representative for several different corporations. A native of Suitland, Md., he lived in Georgia for nearly 20 years. He was named as the Ethicon Inc.’s top regional sales director four years in a row.

He and his wife, Anna have a son, Robert.
