Biography

A three-time selection as Towson’s Track Athlete of the Year, Stephen Mahieu '70 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1983.

He was also named as the school’s Athlete of the year in 1969 and as the Cross Country Athlete of the Year three times. The Mason-Dixon Conference one-mile indoor and outdoor champion from 1967-69, he was a member of the “Circle K” Kiwanis Club, the Men’s Residence Council and the Judicial Board.

Mahieu, who earned his master’s degree in physical education from Penn State, was named Teacher of the Year in Baltimore County in 1972. In 1975, he ran the then-fifth-fastest time ever by an American for 30 kilometers, missing the American record by 18 seconds. He volunteered with Special Olympics.
