Biography

A two-time All-American defenseman for Towson, Steve Hornish '79 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1994.

A native of Maplewood, N.J., he was a two-year captain for Coach Carl Runk and started on defense for three years.

As a junior, he earned third team All-American honors as he helped the Tigers reach the national semifinals in an 8-7 season. He also scored one goal in his junior year. As a senior, he earned second team All-American notice while leading Towson to a 10-6 mark.

The Tigers entered the NCAA Tournament as the top seed and number one-ranked team in Division II. After finishing the regular season with five straight wins, including a 15-10 win over Washington College, the Tigers beat Salisbury State in the quarterfinals before losing to UMBC in the national semifinals. He also played in the North-South all-star game.

A two-time team MVP, Hornish helped Towson post a 26-21 record against strong schedules in his career. He coached men’s lacrosse and soccer at Goucher College, where he established both programs. H also taught and coached at Edgwood Middle School, Bowling Green Elementary School (Va.), and St. Pauls School (Md.).
