High School: Played for head coach Brandon Jones at the Millwood School where he averaged 13.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game in helping the Bobcats to a 23-10 record as a junior. He led the Bobcats to the 2014 state championship and was a four-time MVP. Matthews played AAU for the River City Reign, coached by Chris Herron and was rated a three-star prospect by ESPN.com, Rivals.com and Scout.com.
 
Personal: Matthews’ career ambition is to coach and play professional basketball. He lists his favorite team as the New York Giants while his favorite athletes are Muahammed Ali, Calvin Johnson and Kevin Durant. Matthews’ favorite movies are “Paid In Full” and “Friday.” He lists Meek Mill and Yo Gatti as his favorite musicians. Matthews loves eating pizza and his most memorable experience has been watching his nieces and nephews grow up.
