Biography

COACH KENNEDY ON RODNEY: “We saw glimpses of what Rodney is capable of in last year’s CAA Tournament when he played his best basketball of the year. Obviously he’s got to carry that over into this season. He’s in better shape than he was a year ago and he’s matured.”

2006-07 SEASON:  The only recruited freshman on the roster ... had a sensational CAA Tournament that opened a lot of eyes ... in the first round win over UNC Wilmington he scored a career high 12 points ... he came back the next night and scored another career high, 13 points, against Old Dominion, matching his season high of 30 minutes on the floor ... through the regular season he averaged 3.1 points and 14.1 minutes ... averaged over 20 minutes per game in the final 6 regular season outings ... in the tournament he averaged 12.5 points and 24.5 minutes ... scored a regular season high 10 points in the home victory over Delaware ... grabbed a season high 5 rebounds in the win over Samford.

"With most teams doubling up on veteran Velmar Coleman, Spruill became the go-to player and at times was unstoppable," wrote the Baltimore Sun when naming the junior lefthander as its Player of the Year ... "I knew what we had at certain positions and what certain people could do, but what I didn't know who were the hidden ingredients, like Rodney Spruill," Walbrook coach Kelvin Bridgers told The Sun. "I didn't know that Rodney would flourish the way he did"... Rodney increased his production his senior year, upping his averages to 22.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 blocks ... he was a repeat on the All-Metro first team ... he scored his career high of 43 points, hauled in 13 rebounds and blocked three shots in a 72-68 victory over Baltimore rival Southwestern ... played for the Baltimore All-Stars in the 6th Annual Charm City Challenge, tying for scoring honors with 19 points, going 6 of 9 from the floor and 2 of 2 from beyond the arc ... he is the third All-Metro first team guard from Walbrook to play at Towson ... in addition to Rocky Coleman, Devin Boyd, a 1988 Walbrook graduate, was a four-year starter who became Towson's all-time leading scorer with 2,000 career points and directed the Tigers to NCAA Basketball Tournament appearances in 1990 and 1991.
