David Castellanos joined the Towson athletics department in September 2022 as an assistant director of media relations, serving as the primary contact for women’s soccer, men’s basketball, and softball.

Castellanos comes to Towson after serving as the assistant director of athletic communications for UMBC the past eight years. He was the direct media contact for various sports including women’s soccer, men’s basketball, baseball, and women’s lacrosse.

At UMBC, he was responsible for writing game recaps, feature stories, updating bio, and maintaining the athletics website. While at UMBC, he handled media outreach that included working with ESPN’s College GameDay on a feature on a UMBC basketball player.

Prior to UMBC, Castellanos worked at University of Mary Washington (2013-14) as a sports information intern. While at Mary Washington, he oversaw various sports and was responsible for hosting the opening rounds of the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships and helped run the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Regional Finals in 2014.

Castellanos got starting in media relations at his alma mater Mount St. Mary’s University (2009-13) as a sports information student assistant. During his time at Mount St. Mary’s, he was the primary contact for men’s and women’s tennis for three years and women’s basketball for one year, and was responsible for website maintenance and inputting stats at games.

Castellanos graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. He resides in Owings Mills, Maryland with his wife Patricia.
