2007-08 SEASON: First year with the program after transferring in from Pensacola Junior College ... earned a starting role in the pre-season but lost it when he had to fight through an injury ... he regained his starting job but by mid-season he was coming off the bench ... did not play in the opener against Loyola, played sparingly in the loss to Bucknell due to a shoulder injury he was nursing ... averaged 24.4 minutes and 3.1 ppg as a starter and 9.4 mpg and 1.4 ppg as a sub ... got the first of 8 starts at Delaware, responding with a career high 10 points ... played three straight games of 28 minutes each at the start of the new year ... contributed 4 assists and a career high 3 steals in the home victory over Drexel ... tallied 5 points in each of the wins over N.C. Central and High Point.
AT PENSACOLA JUNIOR COLLEGE: Averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists for the Pirates in 2006-07, earning All-Panhandle Conference and team MVP honors ... scored a career high 32 points against Chipola, the top ranked junior college team in the nation last year ... he played one year for coach Paul Swanson at PJC ... Vernon was initially signed by Billy Gillispie (now the head coach at Kentucky) at Texas-El Paso ... he appeared in 12 games for the Minors in his freshman year with one start as UTEP won the WAC title before falling to Utah in an NCAA Tournament first round game ... he left UTEP for PJC after a frustrating sophomore year when he was hobbled by a foot injury and played in just two games for the Minors.
AT DETROIT REDFORD H.S.: Vernon was a first team All-State, All-City and Dream Team All-Metro player at Detroit Redford ... he was also a McDonald’s All-American nominee ... he averaged 19.0 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in his senior year when the Huskies were 22-3 and state semifinalists ... he averaged 14.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a junior, earning All-City, third team All-League and honorable mention All-State recognition, helping the Huskies captured the city championship ... during his four years with the Huskies, Redford was 80-10 with a city championship and state runner up ... lost by three to Pontiac Northern in the state championship game, an opponent that featured Ricky Morgan (UNLV) and Lester Abram (Michigan) ... Vernon was highly regarded coming out of Redford ... "Vernon is known as one of the toughest guys in Detroit and has the ability to play both guard spots," said Vince Baldwin, president of Prep Spotlight Magazine which rated Carr among the top 20 players in Michigan his senior year. ... “Vernon is a quick, heady point guard.
