Amanda Clements is a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) who specializes in teaching and training the mental and emotional aspects of sport. At the individual level, Amanda uses mental performance concepts to help athletes manage performance anxiety, overcome mistakes in real time, handle stress, and increase their emotional intelligence. A former athlete herself, she understands that sports is tightly wound into every other aspect of one’s life – school, family, relationships, and so forth. As such, she takes a whole life approach and is often called upon by athletes who find themselves lacking clear direction, purpose, motivation, life balance, or are navigating the transition out of their sports career and into the next phase of life.
At the team level, Amanda is often brought in when issues arise surrounding culture, connection, or communication. It is through the same mental performance concepts that she works with teams to create an environment in which the athletes feel in control of their performance, and the coaches feel clear on how to support the mental and emotional growth of their players.
Amanda graduated from Towson University with a B.S. in Anthropology and Sociology. She later completed her CPC with the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching. Her twenty-year athletic career includes competing as a Division I gymnast and playing defensive back for Washington, DC’s semi-pro, women’s football team. It was her own, emotional struggle with transitioning out of competition that ultimately led her to combine her coaching practice with her love of sports. As the owner of Beyond the Game she has provided mental performance coaching to more than 150 teams and individual athletes ranging from club sports up to the collegiate and professional levels. Notable clients include the formerly named Washington Redskins, Towson University Athletics, and UMBC Athletics. She also collaborates with local sports psychiatrist Dr. David McDuff, owner of
MD Sports Performance.
