No stranger to the coaching world, Hemming supervised all aspects of the varsity, junior varsity and freshman lacrosse programs at Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, Virginia. Hemming developed practice plans to improve fundamental skills, game strategy and performance. A successful coaching career saw Hemming and his staff of 10 add the 2013 Virginia Prep League (VPL) title to their trophy case.  In 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, Woodberry Forest School reached the Virginia Independent Sports Athletic Association (VISAA) tournament.

From 2007-08, Hemming was the CEO for Hill City Lacrosse in Lynchburg, Virginia. He helped create a company that fostered the growth of lacrosse in Lynchburg and its surrounding areas. Simultaneously, Hemming was the head men’s lacrosse coach at the Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg. He supervised all aspects of the varsity and junior varsity programs, including scheduling and transportation.

A collegiate lacrosse player, Hemming was a member of the Gettysburg College men’s lacrosse team from 1993-97. A dominating force in the mid-90s, Hemming and the Bullets reached the Division III NCAA Tournament each year he was a member of the program while winning the challenging Centennial Conference twice in 1994 and 1995. Gettysburg reached the National Semifinals in three of his seasons with the team (1994, 1995, 1997).

Following his highly successful collegiate career, Hemming played on several club teams, including the Caufield Lacrosse Club in Melbourne, Australia and the Capital Lacrosse Club in Washington, D.C.

For the 1999 season, Hemming was an assistant coach at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia. Later in his career, Hemming would join the staff at Lynchburg College (2001-03) as an assistant coach. He was also an assistant lacrosse coach at The Potomac School and his alma mater, Episcopal High School.

Prior to joining the Tiger staff, Hemming served as the athletic director at Woodberry Forest School from 2010-16. While working as the athletic director, Hemming oversaw the scheduling of over 300 athletic contests for the School’s 35 athletic teams. He was responsible for a budget north of half a million dollars, while working to increase fundraising and the strategic plan for the School’s athletic department.

Before taking on the athletic director title, Hemming was the associate director of admissions from 2007-10. He was responsible for finding qualified applicants in regional markets and scheduling campus visits, while also working with families through the highly selective application process.

No stranger to fundraising, Hemming was the director of alumni gifts at the Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia. He helped all aspects of a viable and effective stewardship and solicitation process, securing broad based participation and increase financial support from the School’s alumni base.

From 2003-07, Hemming worked in Washington, D.C. at St. John’s College High School. While there, he taught world history, US History and US Presidents.
