Biography
2023-24: Placed 11th in 100 back finals at the CAA Championships with a time of 48.71 … his time of 48.51 in preliminary heats was a personal best and ranked sixth all-time in program history … placed 11th in 200 back finals at CAAs with a personal-best time of 1:46.82 … finished 17th in 200 fly prelims at the conference championship meet with a season-best time of 1:51.90.
2022-23: Swam a personal-best 49.20 in preliminary heats of the 100 back at the CAA Championships and finished 11th in the finals, standing seventh all-time in program history... placed 13th in the 200 back at the conference meet after a PB 1:47.77 in prelims, good for eighth all-time in program history ... named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll.
2021-22: Swam in four events as a sophomore, competing in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, and the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events … finished second in the 200-yard backstroke three times during the regular season … added two third-place finishes, once in the 100-yard backstroke and once in the 200-yard backstroke.
2020-21: Swam primarily as a sprinter in his rookie season … logged Towson’s best 200-yard backstroke time (1 minute, 48.48 seconds) … posted the fourth-best 100-yard backstroke time (50.46) … won the B Finals of the CAA Championship Meet’s 100-yard backstroke (50.46) … took fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:50.16).
High School: Swam for Doug Fonder … posted one of the fastest times in Virginia in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1 minute, 50.00 second finish during the 2015-16 season … put in a 50.69 second swim in the 100-yard backstroke that same season, again one of the fastest times in the state.
Personal: Full name is Reed Thomas Sells … son of Thomas and Jackie Sells … has one sibling, Hannah … father played men’s soccer at Wingate University while his grandfather swam at Bucknell University … hobbies include working out, hiking and video games … works as a lifeguard in the summer … favorite athlete is Conor McGregor … favorite memory is going skiing with his father as a kid … majoring in sport management with aspirations to run an organization or become a swimming coach.
