Evan Freeman

Evan Freeman joined Towson in August 2022 as assistant coach of the cross country/track and field team.

In Freeman’s second year with the Tigers, the distance program continued to improve, making record-breaking history.

The Tiger Distance squad finished the indoor season with three new Top 10 All-Time program marks, including a school record from the Distance Medley Relay. The quartet of Lexi Mogensen, Satori Valentine, Baara Stewart and Aubrey Schaffer first set the record at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, running 12:14.07. The same lineup came back at the CAA Indoor Championships and reset their own record, running 12:11.95 to place sixth overall. Outdoors, the group had two more Top 10 marks, with junior Aubrey Schaffer running 36:24.02 in the 10k for the fifth all-time mark and freshman Baara Stewart running 2:12.93 in the 800m for third all time. Stewart's big PR effort came in the CAA Outdoor Championship final, where she placed fifth in the conference as a true freshman.

In his first year with the Tigers, the cross country and distance programs saw immense growth under Freeman’s leadership.

The fall cross country season started off with solid momentum when graduate senior Beighley Ayers set a Towson program record for the fastest 6k time recorded at the USNA Cross Country Course, running 22:49.1. This effort garnered Ayers a Top 20 finish in the highly competitive field. This momentum continued to carry as Ayers would go on to capture her first ever college victory, winning the Delaware XC Invitational. The Tigers also won the team title by one point over CAA foe Delaware.

The distance team continued to show improvement indoors, with ten new personal bests set throughout the season. These breakthroughs were highlighted by Ayers Top 10 All-Time program marks in the Mile (5th - 5:03.84), 3k (4th - 9:57.28) and 5k (3rd - 17:06.86).

Outdoors, the Tiger distance team set another ten personal bests, along with three Top 10 program marks. Ayers once again etched her name into program history finishing 5th on the 5k list (17:28.48) and 7th on the 10k list (37:07.43). Her 10k effort would score at the CAA Championships, earning her an 8th place finish. Aubrey Schaffer also added her name to the all-time lists, landing 9th in the 10k with her personal best of 37:17.47. That mark garnered her a 10th place finish at CAAs in just her second career 10k race.
