Matt Arbaugh enters his eighth season as a member of the Towson University track and field coaching staff. Arbaugh serves as the program’s pole vault coach.
Since his arrival at Towson, he has guided four vaulters to a height of 11’6” or higher in a single meet, a program-first. Arbaugh helped Maggie Rampolla, Courtney Rose and Brynn Warrington to qualify for both the 2016 Penn Relays and the 2016 Eastern Conference Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. Rampolla and Warrington also qualified for the 2016 ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships under Arbaugh’s guidance.
Arbaugh has been working with Hayley Horvath who already has etched her name in the Towson record books. During the 2018 outdoor season she competed at NCAA East Region Prelims, finishing tied for 36th overall with a clearance of 3.77 meters, first freshman in program history to qualify for NCAA East Region Prelims and helped Towson finish second overall at the ECAC and CAA Championships during the outdoor season. The ECAC finish was the best in program history and she is the school record holder and CAA Champion in the pole vault (4.1 meters/13-5.25) .
Arbaugh coached Maggie Rampolla to both indoor and outdoor school records in her final season. Rampolla graduated with a personal best of 3.86-meters (12’8”) and was crowned the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) champion in the pole vault. At the 2016 CAA Championship meet, Warrington won silver and Rose finished sixth. The pole vaulters combined for 21 points, the most points recorded by any event for Towson at the championship meet. With Arbaugh’s help, Rampolla went on to finish fourth in the 2016 ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Arbaugh graduated from the University of Delaware in 2007 and was a four-year competitor for the Blue Hens. During the 2015-16 season, he received the Blue Hen Sportsmanship Award, which honors student-athletes who are excelled role models and display outstanding sportsmanship. Arbaugh recorded a personal-best of 14’7” at the 2007 CAA Championship meet.
While at Loyola Blakefield, Arbaugh’s alma mater, he set the school record in the pole vault.
Arbaugh received a master’s degree in computer science from Towson in 2014. In addition to his coaching duties at Towson, he works full-time as a computer scientist for the Department of Justice.
