David Beck was announced as an assistant coach for the Towson University women’s volleyball program in March 2022.

In Beck’s first season with the Tigers, he worked closely with the pin hitters and blockers to help guide the Tigers to their fourth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament title as well as the CAA Regular Season Title. Beck worked with Victoria Barrett and Nina Cajic who garnered All-CAA First Team honors, with Barrett being named CAA Tournament MVP for her performances in the CAA Tournament as well as AVCA All-American Honorable Mention.  Additionally, Cajic was named CAA Offensive Player of the Week twice and named to the CAA Volleyball All-Tournament Team. The Tigers finished first in the conference in hitting percentage and kills with Nina Cajic leading the CAA with a .374 hitting percentage.

Beck’s blocking work helped the Tigers become ranked 5th in all Division 1 at 2.89 blocks per set highlighted by a 16-block performance in a four-set win against #7 ranked Pittsburgh for the Tigers’ first-ever top 10 victory in program history.

Beck led marketing efforts to help boost fan attendance and was instrumental in bringing a record-setting 1,012 fans to SECU Arena in Towson’s five-set win over Big Ten opponent Rutgers.

Beck joins the three-time reigning CAA Champions after a three-year stint at the University at Buffalo as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. In his first year, he coached team blocking to over two blocks per set on average en route to the first MAC tournament match win for UB since 2009. Beck also helped the Bulls to one of their best Mid-American Conference records at 8-8 since joining the league in 1998. During the 2021 season, Beck guided a young Buffalo offense to a top 5 MAC hitting percentage while freshman Mandy Leigh was ranked eighth in total assists across all of Division I for the regular season. Working closely with the outside hitters during his time at UB, Beck coached Rachel Sanks to First Team All-MAC, Polina Prokudina Honorable Mention All-MAC, and Milla Malik to Second Team All-MAC as well as the All-Freshmen Team.

Overseeing the recruiting efforts for the Bulls, Beck was responsible for bringing in the freshmen group for the 2021 season, including several highly-touted recruits from various national #1 team rankings. During the 2021 season, the Bulls swept MAC East weekly awards (Offensive, Defensive, Setter) with freshmen and sophomores in back to back weeks. Beck also helped round out the 2020 recruiting class that earned Honorable Mention Honors from Prepvolleyball.com. Beck also served as camp director during his time at UB.

Prior to his time at UB, Beck was the volunteer assistant coach at the University of Virginia for the 2018 campaign. He was responsible for scouting report preparation throughout the challenging Atlantic Coast Conference schedule. While on Grounds, Beck helped train Kelsey Miller, who finished fifth in the ACC in digs per set (3.97) while also assisting with in-game scouting, positional training at practices, and handling team logistics.

Beck also has served as the assistant director for Charlottesville Area Volleyball Club. He helped complete equipment orders, travel, tournament registrations, facilities, scheduling, skill assessment, and team conditioning. On-court, Beck worked to develop the 16U and 18U national teams and was the lead trainer for UVA-CAVC’s clinic series.

For two seasons, Beck was a graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern, helping guide Alex Beecher to finish 26th all-time for career digs in NCAA Division I while mentoring outside hitter Catherine Murray to the 1,000 kill mark. Beck worked closely with the team’s marketing to enhance strategies for increased fan attendance which led to breaking the Georgia Southern Women’s Volleyball attendance record of 1,300+ fans. Beck also helped develop the Georgia Southern women’s volleyball student section, The Hanner Hectics.

Beck founded Blue Ribbon Sports, LLC in Baltimore in December 2015. There he recruited and selected student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions to play in a charity tennis tournament, The John Archer Open, benefiting the John Archer School in Bel Air, Maryland.
