Jamie Peterson heads into his eighth season year at the helm of the Towson women’s tennis program in 2024-25. After serving as the team's interim head coach in 2016-17, Peterson was officially named head women's tennis coach prior to the 2017-18 season. He spent two seasons as an assistant with the Tigers from 2014-16. Peterson currently has 68 wins as head coach, third in program history.

In the 2023-24 season, Peterson picked up six victories, with five occurring at Tiger Tennis Complex. Towson picked up four wins in the month of April, including CAA victories against Monmouth and Stony Brook. 

In the 2022-23 season, the Tigers went on a three-match winning streak. Towson swept Coppin State, then followed up with a 4-2 victory over Rider and a 5-2 win over CAA for Monmouth. 

Peterson picked up nine victories in the 2021-22 season. The Tigers went 7-3 to close out the regular season. Amelia Lawson was selected to the All-CAA Third Team after having a 10-10 overall singles record. She went 7-7 on the No. 1 flight while also securing a 10-9 mark in doubles play, going 5-1 on court No. 2 with partner Jessica Assenmacher.

In 2021, Peterson led the Tigers to four consecutive victories in April as well a win in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. Towson’s No. 1 doubles team of Alexa Martinez and Themis Haliou earned Second Team All-CAA honors. Peterson’s home record also improved to 27-10 at the Tiger Tennis Complex.

During the 2020 fall semester, the Towson tennis team was one of five to finish with a grade point average of 3.5 or better. The 11-person squad averaged 3.635, with Jessica AssenmacherAlexa Martinez and Lea Kosanovic earning perfect 4.0's.

The 2019-20 season was cut short during the dual schedule due to the global Coronavirus pandemic. Before the year was called off, Peterson led the Tigers to 7-0 shutouts over Coppin State and Delaware State and also a 4-3 victory over Saint Francis in the start of the season.
 
In 2018-19, the Tigers finished with 13 wins including victories over UNCW, Drexel and Villanova. Peterson led his team to the first program win over the Seahawks and a 3-2 finish in regular season conference play. Towson had a solid 7-2 home record for the 2019 dual season. In the fall, Peterson helped lead Yevgeniya Shusterman to win her singles flight in Navy’s Blue & Gold Invitational.
 
In the 2017-18 season, he led the team to a 12-12 record and a first-round win over Hofstra at the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship before falling to nationally ranked William & Mary, as the Tribe went on to win the title. Peterson helped lead Lucy Williams and Shusterman to defeat the then-No. 1 doubles team to a 6-0 win over William & Mary. He also helped lead the team to its first-ever dual win over Georgetown 4-3 without the top singles player Nicole Shakhnazarova.

In his interim year as head coach, Peterson led the team to its third-straight appearance at the CAA Championship to face two-seed Elon and a 13-12 overall record. That year Towson also achieved a top-100 ranking in Division I ITA for the first time in program history. Peterson led the Tigers to a win over No. 59 College of Charleston, 5-2, conference rivals Drexel and Hofstra, as well as MAC Champion Buffalo 4-3 who faced Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

A 1995 graduate of Towson, Peterson is a local Maryland product from Bowie, Maryland and played for the 3 time County Champion Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders. Was a member of the men's tennis team where he played No. 1 and captained the team for two years. Following high school, Peterson chose to attend Towson State University and play for men’s tennis for the Tigers program.  He was two-time team captain from 1991-95 and finished his career with a 64-35 singles record, the fourth-most wins and fourth-best winning percentage in program history. Peterson helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in 1993 and 1994. He played under head coach Tom Meinhardt before graduating with a degree in sports management.

Following graduation, Peterson began his career as a full-time tennis teaching professional locally at L'Hirondelle Club and Homeland Racket Club before moving on as the Director of Tennis at the prestigious Chartwell Golf and Country Club in Severna Park from 2001-14. Under Peterson, Chartwell became one of the most active country club tennis programs in Maryland. He was recognized as Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament Director of the Year by the USTA in 2005. While working as the Assistant Coach at Towson, Peterson also was the Director of Tennis at Hillendale Country Club in nearby Phoenix, Maryland in 2016-17.

Peterson has continued to compete locally and nationally in both singles, doubles, and various team competitions in his post college playing career.  Locally, he was the #1 ranked singles player in the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2009 (35 and over), 2011 (40 and over) and 2013 (40 and over) having won multiple Mid-Atlantic and Maryland State Championships .  He was also recognized by the Unites States Professional Tennis Association  Mid-Atlantic Section as Player of the Year for all three of those years.  He also won 10 Maryland State Doubles Championships at the Chestnut Ridge Country Club with four different partners 1998, 1999, 2004-2007, 2009-2012. 
 
He has also captained and competed in Intersectional senior team competition representing the Mid-Atlantic in both Talbert Cup (35 and over) and Atlantic Coast Cup (45 and over). While competing/captaining he helped lead teams to championships for Talbert Cup in 2009, 2014 and 2015 and Atlantic Cup in 2018, 2022 and 2024.  Combined in both events, Peterson's individual record was 14-2.
 
In national senior competition, individually  he has been ranked as high as #5 nationally in Doubles and #7 in singles by the USTA.  He was a finalist two times in a national USTA Doubles Championship (1999 National 25 and on hard courts and 2019 National 40 and over grass courts), also finished third in doubles (2019 45 and over grass courts ), and third in singles (2018 grass courts). 
 
In national USTA 18 and over men's team competitions, Peterson played on three different teams( 2007, 2009 and 2013) and captained the 2009 squad. In National 40 and over Mixed USTA team competition, Peterson helped his team to a third place finish with a 6-1 record. 
 
Peterson has also earned a certification of Elite Professional by the RSPA (Formerly USPTA) and has served voluntarily on the board for USTA Maryland District (2008-12) and also served on the board of the Mid-Atlantic USPTA board and as president in 2015-16.
