Steven C. Eigenbrot, Ph.D., serves as Vice President – Athletics at Towson University, reporting directly to the President and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet. He leads a Division I athletics program comprising 19 sports, nearly 500 student-athletes and 135 staff members.
Since joining Towson in 2022, Eigenbrot and his team have focused on building one of the Coastal Athletic Association’s (CAA) most competitive and comprehensive athletics programs while positioning athletics as a strategic asset to Towson University. That work has centered on competitive excellence, financial sustainability, student-athlete development, institutional partnerships and advancing the Towson brand.
Towson has earned 10 conference regular-season championships, six conference tournament championships and nine NCAA postseason appearances during his tenure. In 2023-24, Towson achieved its highest-ever finish among CAA institutions in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. The department also hosted the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Quarterfinals, the first time the event had returned to Towson since 2006. In 2027, Towson will host the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championships, bringing the Division I, II and III championships to Johnny Unitas® Stadium for the first time at a single site.
Financial sustainability and institutional alignment have been central to the department’s strategy. Towson secured institutional approval and a funding strategy for more than $50 million in capital improvements, including a $30+ million capital project starting Fall 2026 featuring an expansion of the Field House, renovations of both athletics training room renovations and a community-serving outpatient medical clinic. The department also opened a $2.5 million dining facility, Doc’s South Campus Kitchen, in the Towson Center to incorporate fueling opportunities within the footprint of Towson Athletics. In partnership with university finance and enrollment leadership, Towson has also developed new approaches to revenue sharing, scholarship strategy and regional tuition that align athletics investments with broader university priorities and new opportunities in the post-House settlement era.
External revenue and institutional visibility have grown alongside those efforts. The department has secured more than $5 million in new philanthropic commitments, including two of the first seven-figure gifts in Towson Athletics history, while expanding regional television exposure from one home broadcast in 2021-22 to 30 games in 2025-26, through a new relationship with Monumental Sports Network, which has helped extend Towson Athletics’ reach throughout the Baltimore and Mid-Atlantic markets, creating greater visibility for both athletics and the university.
Before joining Towson, Eigenbrot spent nearly 12 years at the University of South Carolina, holding progressively senior leadership roles, ultimately serving as Deputy Athletics Director and Executive Associate Athletics Director/CEO of the Gamecock Club. During that time, he helped lead the $248 million Garnet Way Campaign, oversaw an 18-member fundraising operation generating more than $40 million annually, and helped plan, finance and deliver more than $89 million in football facilities investment. That work included the Long Family Football Operations Center, McNair Practice Complex, Spurrier Indoor Facility and Rice Football Campus, as well as major renovations to Williams-Brice Stadium.
Across both institutions, Eigenbrot’s work has emphasized building strong relationships, developing people and creating systems that allow organizations to execute. His approach is grounded in the belief that athletics should advance the university mission—strengthening the student-athlete experience while contributing to enrollment, philanthropy, community engagement, institutional reputation and financial sustainability.
Eigenbrot has served nationally through the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Oversight Committee and FCS Football Regional Advisory Committee and is a board member of Special Olympics Maryland. He also founded the Baltimore Division I Athletics Summit, bringing the region’s Division I athletics leaders together around shared challenges and opportunities.
Eigenbrot holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; an M.B.A. in Business Administration and M.S.A. in Sports Administration from Ohio University; and a B.S. in Finance and International Business from the University of Maryland, College Park.
He and his wife, Erin, have two children.
