Terry Porter assumed the role of Associate Athletic Director, Compliance Services in June 2018. He was promoted to Senior Associate AD – Administration & Compliance in October 2024.
As a member of Athletics Director’s Leadership Council, he provides administrative leadership and oversight of the Office of Compliance Services, leads Towson’s name, image, and likeness i(NIL) initiatives. He also serves as sport administrator for the men's basketball and softball programs.
Additionally, Porter is an advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and L.E.a.D Tiger, the department leadership development program designed for student-athletes who have shown high levels of talent both in the classroom and in competition. He also serves as the department’s liaison to several campus offices including financial aid, the Bursar’s Office and The Office of the Registrar.
During his tenure, Porter has served as sport administrator for Women’s Soccer, partnered with campus constituents in creating FuTUre (Towson’s University’s NIL promotion and education initiative), partnered with the Towson Athletic Fund as a Staff Giving Ambassador to help triple staff giving in 2018-19 and currently serves on Towson’s Title IX Hearing Panel.
Porter represents Towson on a national level as one of five administrators on the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee that evaluates waiver requests to reinstate or extend student-athlete’s eligibility. He is a 2020 graduate of the President’s Inclusive Leadership Institute, the prestigious NCAA Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute, and the Sellinger School of Business and Management Advanced Leadership Development Program.
Porter is currently a member of the National Association for Athletic Compliance (NAAC) and was selected to participate in TopConnect Athletic Director Symposium, and Collegiate Athletics Leadership Symposium (CALS).
Porter came to Towson from Loyola University Maryland where he advised all 17 sport programs on NCAA and Patriot League compliance and eligibility items as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance.
Prior to Loyola, Porter served as Assistant Director of Compliance at the University of South Carolina. Before South Carolina, Porter made stops at his alma mater, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and was a graduate intern at Vanderbilt University.
Porter graduated from Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a minor in chemistry in 2008, and he earned his Master of Science in health and human performance with a concentration in sport management from Middle Tennessee State University in 2011.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native lives in Howard County, Maryland with his wife, Jamie and two sons, Jaxon and Eli.
