TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, on the field, the course and in the pool. Moment number five takes fans back inside Johnny Unitas® Stadium for a strong performance from women's lacrosse against a Top 10 opponent.
Every athlete dreams of being the hero that helps their team pull off a big upset.
On March 15 against No. 10 Notre Dame, sophomore attacker
Natalie Sulmonte got that chance.
The Tigers were playing their fourth Top 10 team of the season. Sulmonte scored a pair of first half goals which allowed the Tigers to open up a 7-4 lead at the break.
Notre Dame responded with four straight goals to start the second half and took an 8-7 lead with 15:43 to play.
Sulmonte helped the Tigers draw even as she picked up an assist on junior
Jenna Kerr's goal at 15:09. She then gave Towson a 9-8 advantage with her third goal of the game at 14:25.
After Notre Dame tied the game at 9-9, Towson closed the contest on a 5-2 run. Sulmonte struck twice during that stretch, including the final goal of the game which sealed the 14-11 victory for the Tigers.
Sulmonte finished with a game-high six points after matching her career-high with five goals and adding an assist. She helped the Tigers record their first win over a Top 10 opponent since the 2014 season.
Sulmonte's contributions weren't just limited to the offensive end as she recorded four ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
