TOWSON, Md. - Senior forward Ahman Nivins and junior guard Darrin Govens combined to scored 47 points and lead hot-shooting Saint Joseph's (4-4) to an 85-64 non-conference victory over the Tigers (4-5) in the Towson Center on Tuesday night.

Nivins, the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Player of the Week last week, led the Hawks by making 9 of 12 shots from the floor while scoring a game high 25 points. Nivins, a two-time All-Atlantic-10 pick, also grabbed nine rebounds and made seven of eight free throws. Govens shot 7-for-13 from the floor and made 4 of 10 three-pointers as he scored 22 points.

A three-pointer by Govens midway through the first half gave the Hawks a lead, 22-19, that they never relinquished. The Hawks gradually built a 38-31 halftime lead.

"This is the first game all year where we absolutely just fell apart," said Tigers' coach Pat Kennedy. "For the first 18 minutes of the game we were great. Then we made some not so smart plays. Once the momentum swung, we couldn't recover."

The Hawks used a 9-0 run that spilled over into the second half to stretch a 34-31 lead to a dozen. St. Joseph's maintained its double digit lead through the rest of the contest. Edwin Lashley's three-pointer with 1:32 left to play in the conest gave the Hawks their biggest lead, 85-59.

Senior forward Junior Hairston led Towson with 16 points as he shot 6-for-12 from the floor. Sophomore guard Brian Morris added a season high 14 points. Freshman guard Troy Franklin, last week's CAA Rookie of the Week, scored eight points and had eight assists for the Tigers.

The Hawks' Garrett Williamson just missed posting a "triple double" as he scored 8 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Tigers were beaten off the boards 40-22. Sophomore forward Robert Nwankwo led Towson with five rebounds.

The Tigers begin a four-game road swing this Saturday when they travel to High Point, N.C. to face the Panthers. On December 22nd they'll meet Bowling Green in Ohio before taking on Lafayette on December 28 in Easton, Pa. They'll round out the calendar year with a New Year's Eve contest at North Carolina State. All four games will be carried live on WTMD (89.7 FM) Radio.
