PHILADELPHIA, Pa. ? A 15-4 run to start the second half helped lift Drexel to a 60-41 victory over the Tigers on Sunday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Tigers (11-6, 3-4 CAA) had a two-game win streak snapped despite getting 14 points from Shanae Baker-Brice.
Holding a six-point lead coming out of the locker room at half time, Drexel went on a 15-4 run to open up a 44-27 lead with 14:15 to play. Gabriela Marginean had five points for the Dragons during that stretch while Jasmina Rosseel connected for five as well. Towson would score eight of the next 10 points to make it a 46-35 game with 9:35 to play. Baker-Brice had three during the stretch while senior Brandy Black connected on a three-pointer as well. That 11-point deficit was as close as Towson would get the rest of the way however. Drexel went on a 10-0 run to push its lead back to 56-35 with 5:31 to play. Marginean had four of the ten for the Tigers while Marisa Crane would also add four. The two teams would trade baskets over the final five minutes before a jumper by Ayana Lee would make the final margin 60-41.
Towson had opened the first half on a good run as Haliena Snowden had four points for the Tigers before Drexel scored its first basket. Towson would extend its lead as a pair of free throws from Katrina Wheeler at 16:57 made it a 9-2 game in favor of the visitors. Drexel would respond with a 6-0 run to take its first lead of the contest, 10-9 at 14:42. The two teams traded three-pointers as Omara Parker's bucket from behind the arch at 13:17 tied the game at 13-13. The two teams continued to trade buckets with Kandace Davis' lay-up at 8:54 tying the game at 17-17. Drexel would outscore Towson 12-6 over the final eight minutes to take a 29-23 lead into the locker room.
Baker-Brice had 14 points, three assists and four steals to lead the Tigers while Davis finished with nine points and five rebounds. Wheeler led the Tigers on the boards with nine rebounds. Towson shot 27.1% from the floor and 70.6% from the foul line.
Marginean finished with 19 points while Rosseel contributed 15 points. Marginean also led the Dragons with six boards.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday, January 29 when they return home to host James Madison at 7 p.m.
