#16 Loyola 11, Towson 8 - Upon Further Review
? Saturday's game between the Tigers and the Greyhounds was the 51st meeting in the all-time series. The Greyhounds have won the last two meetings, but still trail the all-time series by a 27-24 margin.
? It was the Tigers' first loss at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field since April 3, 1999 in a 16-14 setback. The Tigers had won the previous four games at Loyola in the series.
? Freshman attackman Sean Maguire and sophomore defenseman Marc Ingerman each made the first start of their college careers against the Greyhounds.
? Maguire and freshman attackman Matt Lamon each scored two goals in the first games of their college careers.
? Junior goalkeeper Rob Wheeler tallied a career-high 14 saves in the second start of his college career. Prior to Saturday's loss against the Greyhounds, Wheeler had made just 13 saves in his career.
? Of the eight goals scored by the Tigers on Saturday, six of them were scored by attackmen. Only goals by Brock Armour and Randall Cooper were recorded by a midfielder.
? With his three-point effort, sophomore attackman Tim Stratton extended his streak of consecutive games with a point to three straight games. In addition, he has a three-game goal-scoring streak.
? The Tigers and the Greyhounds were not called for a time-serving penalty in Saturday's game. It is the fifth time in Towson history that the Tigers have gone through a game without serving a penalty, but the first time since the 2007 season.
? A total of 21 Towson players appeared in their first career game against the Greyhounds.
Previewing the Falcons
? Currently 1-1 on the season, the Falcons have been idle since a 12-8 victory over Presbyterian on February 15. The Falcons opened the season with a 15-4 loss against then-3rd ranked Maryland on February 14 in Jacksonville, Fla.
? Sophomore midfielder Vinny Sandtorv leads the Falcons' offense after scoring five goals against Presbyterian. Sandtorv is tied for second on the team with 11 shots in the two games.
? Senior midfielder Griffin Nevitt leads the Falcons with three assists while junior attackman Ridge Flick has scored three goals with two assists.
? The Falcons posted a 3-8 record last year, but return six starters and 24 letter winners for Coach Eric Seremet, who is in his first season as the Falcons' leader.
? A 1992 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Seremet served as an assistant coach for Fred Acee for seven years prior to becoming the Falcons' coach. Acee, who was the Falcons' coach for 11 years, is serving as the Falcons' Director of Lacrosse Operations this year.
Previewing the Pioneers
? Led by a three-goal, two-assist effort from Charley Dickenson, the Pioneers enter this weekend's play with a 1-1 record after a 10-9 victory over Albany on Saturday afternoon.
? Dickenson was one of two Denver players to record a "hat trick" in the win over the Great Danes on Saturday as Joey Murray also scored three goals in the victory.
? The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-2 half-time lead and held off the Great Danes for the victory.
? Goalkeeper Peter Lowell made 13 saves in his first start of the season for the Pioneers, who will be making their home debut this weekend.
? Murray is the Pioneers' leading scorer with six goals and an assist while Dickenson has scored four goals in two games.
? Coach Jamie Munro is in his 11th season as the Pioneers' leader. A two-time selection as Great Western Lacrosse League Coach of the Year, the 1989 Brown University graduate has an 85-63 career record at Denver.
? The Pioneers earned their sixth straight winning season last year and made their second NCAA Tournament appearance with a 10-7 record.
Towson vs. Air Force - The Series
? The Tigers and the Falcons will be meeting for the third time in a series which Towson leads by a 2-0 margin. However, the teams have not met since the 2005 season at the Pioneer Face-Off Classic in Denver.
? The Tigers won the first-ever meeting between the two teams on March 26, 1980, a 17-5 victory at Minnegan Stadium. The Tigers scored eight extra-man goals in the victory and held the Falcons to just 21 shots.
? The two teams did not meet again until the 2005 season when the Tigers earned a 15-6 victory over the Falcons in the opening game of the Pioneer Face-Off Classic.
Towson vs. Denver - The Series
? The Tigers and the Pioneers will be meeting for the second straight season and the fourth time overall in a series which Towson leads by a 3-0 margin.
? The teams met for the first time on March 19, 2000 at Minnegan Stadium as the Tigers earned a 16-9 victory over the Pioneers. The Tigers used an 8-0 run, including three goals from Brad Reppert, to earn the victory.
? Reppert scored four goals in the inaugural meeting while Hunter Lochte had three goals with two assists.
? The two teams didn't meet again until the 2005 season when Towson posted a 10-8 victory over the Pioneers to claim the Face-off Classic championship at Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
? Towson Coach Tony Seaman has a perfect 4-0 record against the Pioneers in his career. In addition to his three wins with the Tigers, Coach Seaman earned a victory over Denver on March 4, 1998 when he was the head coach at Johns Hopkins.
