Incoming Volleyball Freshman Class Earns Honorable Mention Ranking

TOWSON, Md. ? The incoming freshman class for the Tiger volleyball program earned a spot on the honorable mention list as Prepvolleyball.com announced its top college recruiting classes of 2009.

The 2009 freshman class for the Tigers includes Rachel Gambow, Amanda Halls, Kelsey Hoefer, I'ishah Keliikoa, Stacey Niehoff and Evan Schulz.

“I am thrilled to have our program mentioned on this list. It is a tremendous compliment to Rachel, Amanda, Kelsey, I'ishah, Stacey and Evan,” said Coach Paul Koncir. “Of course they have some learning and growing ahead of them, but they make for a very bright future for the program. We are all excited to get started in August”.

The Tigers were the only Colonial Athletic Association team to be listed among the rankings that included the top 30 and teams receiving either highest honorable mention, high honorable mention or honorable mention honors. Towson will face three other teams that received honorable mention selection for their freshman classes (Maryland, Oakland and Penn).

“As you build towards a future including a championship, two things become critical,” added Koncir. “One is to establish a sense of character, discipline, work ethic and unity. The other is to bring in young talent that can flourish and advance the chase for the goal. Our current group has actively taken on the first, and our incoming class (along with sophomore Susan Gansor) is a large part of the second.”

Prepvolleyball.com determined its ranks by using a panel of college coaches from across the country. Coaches on the panel were asked to judge the classes by size, strength and cumulative impact the class could make in the next four years.

“This is also a testament to the hard work of my assistant coach and our athletic department staff,” commented Koncir. “As well as the team who have helped to grow an environment of hard working players and people.”

Koncir and the Tigers will open the 2009 season on August 28 when they face St. Francis (Pa.) as part of the West Virginia Classic.
