TOWSON, Md. - Old Dominion used a 25-7 run over the final 11 minutes of the game to defeat the Tigers 57-50 on Sunday afternoon. Towson (9-9, 3-4 CAA) was led by Shanae Baker-Brice who finished with 18 points in the contest.
"I'm disappointed in our inability to finish today," said Coach Joe Mathews. "Old Dominion played good defense but we have to find a way to close games out."
Towson led 41-32 with 11:11 to play in the contest before the Lady Monarchs started their comeback. A 6-0 run by Old Dominion made it a 43-38 game with 9:44 to play. A Haliena Snowden jumper at 7:00 broke up the Monarchs run and pushed the Tiger lead back to seven. Old Dominion would score 13 of the next 15 points to turn a seven point deficit into a four-point advantage, 51-47 with 2:55 to play. The Lady Monarchs would get four points from Jessica Canady in the final 1:30 and close the game on a 6-3 run to claim the victory.
The two teams battled each other early in the first half as there were four ties in the first 10 minutes of the contest. With the scored tied at 15-15, Old Dominion got back-to-back buckets to take a 19-15 lead with 9:17 to play in the half. The Tigers responded with a 6-0 run to take a 21-19 lead with 6:36 to play. Snowden had two of the Tigers' four baskets during that stretch. After Old Dominion tied the game at 21-21, Towson would score 10 of the final 12 points in the half. The Tigers headed to the locker room with a 31-23 advantage.
Towson opened the second half with a 5-0 run and took its largest lead of the game, 36-23 with 17:42 remaining. The two teams traded baskets over the next several minutes with a Canady lay-up at 15:16 making it a 38-30 game. Towson would score five of the next seven to take a 41-32 edge, setting the stage for Old Dominion's comeback.
In addition to her 18 points, Baker-Brice finished with six assists and three steals. Snowden contributed 16 points, five rebounds and two steals. Kandace Davis finished with a team-high nine rebounds, as she went over 700 rebounds for her career in the contest. Davis would also match her season-high with three blocked shots.
Jasmine Parker connected for a game-high 22 points and four rebounds in the game. Canady finished with 10 points and nine rebounds while Kquanise Byrd had six assists.
Towson returns to action when it visits Delaware on Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
