JMU Rallies to Edge Tigers, 2-1

TOWSON, Md. - Junior forward Yolie Anderson-Golhor scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the 48th minute, as James Madison University (6-5-0, 2-1-0) rallied from an early deficit to earn its third win in the last four games, a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Tigers (5-5-2, 1-2-0) at the Towson Center Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.

It was the first multi-goal game of Anderson-Golhor's career.

"I thought we battled and played good soccer today," Towson Coach Greg Paynter said. "I don't think the stats sheet would necessarily show it, but I think it was an even game. JMU got some breaks and some opportunities that they took advantage of. They put a lot of pressure on us."

The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead in the second minute when freshman forward Emily Banes scored her third goal of the season. After taking the ball away from a James Madison defender, Banes took a shot from close range to the far post to give Towson an early advantage.

But, the Dukes responded in the 39th minute when Anderson-Golhor took a shot from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar and then crossed the goal line, tying the game at 1-1.

Just over two minutes into the second half, Anderson-Golhor gave the Dukes a 2-1 advantage when she scored off a rebound of a shot by senior defender Corinna Strickland.

From there, the James Madison defense held Towson to just three shots in the second half to preserve the victory.

While Anderson-Golhor scored two goals for the Dukes, senior goalkeeper Diane Wszalek made two saves as James Madison outshot Towson by a 24-5 margin.

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak matched her season high by making ten saves for the Tigers, who lost for the second time in the last three games.

The Tigers will begin a three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon when they visit Virginia Commonwealth University at 1 p.m. Meanwhile, the Dukes will host George Mason on Sunday afternoon.
