Delaware Uses Early Goal to Edge Tigers, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. – Junior goalkeeper Breanna Stemler made three saves en route to her fourth shutout of the season as the University of Delaware (7-10-1, 3-6-1) earned its second straight win, a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Tigers (6-10-3, 2-7-1) at the Delaware Mini-Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was the second straight 1-0 victory for the Blue Hens, who defeated George Mason on Friday night.

The Blue Hens took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when sophomore forward Ali Miller scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist from freshman forward Shannon Kearney.

From there, Stemler and the Delaware defense limited Towson to just seven shots in the game, including three shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak made five saves for the Tigers, who have lost their last four games.

The Tigers will play their final game of the season on Friday afternoon when they host George Mason at 2 p.m. Prior to kick-off, the Tigers will honor seniors Samantha Young and Melissa Gomes for their contributions to the Towson women's soccer program.
