Seaman Named as Outlaws' General Manager

DENVER, Colo. – Former Tiger men's lacrosse coach Tony Seaman has been named as the general manager of the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse, it has been announced by Outlaws President Mac Freeman.

Seaman replaces Brian Reese, who resigned on September 15 to become the general manager of the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

“I am very excited about becoming a part of the very best organization in Major League Lacrosse,” Seaman said. “Mac Freeman and [Outlaws' Director of Sales and Marketing] Chuck Olney exemplify professionalism and I hope to help them reach their goal of bringing a Steinfeld Cup to Denver for our fans.

“The Outlaws are one of the premier teams in the league both on and off the field,” Seaman added. “Denver has a great lacrosse community and I look forward to helping the sport continue to grow in the Rocky Mountain region.”

The only coach in NCAA men's lacrosse history to lead three schools to the NCAA Tournament, Seaman compiled a 263-166 record over a 30-year career while reaching the NCAA Tournament 19 times. He is also the only coach in NCAA history to be named as the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Coach of the Year at two different schools.

Currently serving as the Special Advisor to the Director of Athletics, Seaman spent 13 years as the Tigers' head coach and led Towson to a 99-93 record, which included four conference championships and five NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2001, he guided the Tigers to the greatest single-season turnaround in college lacrosse history when Towson posted a 14-4 record and a berth in the national semifinals after winning just three games the previous year. As a result, he was honored as the USILA Division I Coach of the Year.

Prior to becoming the Tigers' coach in 1999, Seaman spent eight years as the head coach at Johns Hopkins University, leading the Blue Jays to eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances and a 77-33 record.

From 1983 to 1990, Seaman served as the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania and guided the Quakers to a 74-37 record, six NCAA Tournament berths, along with four Ivy League titles. He was named as the USILA National Coach of the Year in 1983 and 1984.

In 1982, Seaman began his college coaching career at C.W. Post and directed the Pioneers to a 12-3 record in their first season as a Division I program. The Pioneers defeated opponents such as Yale, Villanova and Air Force while Seaman was named as the Mid-East Conference Coach of the Year.

In addition, he served as the head coach of the United States National Team at the 1994 ILF World Championships in Manchester, England. He coached the United States to a perfect record and the gold medal with a 21-7 win over Australia in the championship game. Seaman also served as a member of the selection committee for the U.S. National Teams that won the 1986 and 1990 World Games.

A member of the NCAA Division I men's lacrosse committee, Seaman was inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame in January.

“We are very fortunate to be able to add Tony Seaman to the Outlaws' organization,” Freeman said. “His experience and knowledge of the game make him the perfect addition to help the Outlaws reach the next level.

“Tony has been a champion of this great game for decades and his addition to the Denver lacrosse community is a significant step in continuing the growth of the game in the West,” Freeman added. “He recognizes the standards that have been established here both on and off the field and he shares our goal of bringing a championship to Denver.”

Seaman and his wife, Guri, are the parents of two former Division I lacrosse players. Their daughter, Barb, played for Penn from 2007 to 2010 and helped the Quakers reach the NCAA semifinals three times. Meanwhile, their son, Greg, was a four-year letter winner for the Princeton University men's lacrosse team.

Since joining the MLL in 2006, the Outlaws have reached the postseason in six straight years while compiling a 49-23 record.

Seaman will continue to serve as a member of the Towson Athletics staff.
